Red Dot Cursor

Is the red dot when you type on the DX a Motorola product or an Android 2.2 product? I want to use a Blur-less ROM, but don't want to lose that cursor because it comes in handy a lot. If I go Blur-less, will I lose it? Also, what is the official name of it?
