Rate the Motorola Droid

You can have the Droid enter your voicemail password automatically. Add two pauses at the end of the *86 in the voicemail parameters.

You do this by getting the cursor just after the "6" and with the virtual keyboard up, hit the lower left button on the keyboard. Then you will have the option of entering pauses. I use three pauses. Then enter your password followed by a "#" (no quotes)

Save that and your password will be entered automatically next time you call voicemail.:icon_ banana:

I give my Droid a rating of 4.8 out of 5 assuming the camera issue is resolved with the software update.

My small complaint with the Droid is that it doesn't store my voicemail password. With a BB you can opt to have the phone automatically enter the password when voicemail asks for it. Minor annoyance.

Your information and instructions worked. Thank You!

I give the Droid a 4, because of the hardware keyboard (keys too small, or don't have the right surface shape for easy typing... possibly if the keys were more convex instead of concave?). I also think the cut & paste functionality needs improvement (and you have to use the slider keyboard to use cut & paste :-P ). If the phone keeps working like it has the past 5 days, it's a keeper! Love the screen (display quality and touch/swipe sensitivity). More applications would be nice, but I know they're working on that (I'll be having Monopoly withdrawl soon  ). Very intuitive operation. Who knew 10 years ago that a device based on Linux would be this bad ass?! I love it :D .

Clumsy as a phone - too many actions needed to make a call. Battery stinks. Voice call still needs you to look at the phone = what the hell? Poorly thought out. Bluetooth interoperability also poor. Poor phone call log and contact interface. My free LG9400 was a better phone. Not nuts about it. Almost returned it. No easy interface with Outlook, an industry standard. I am hoping that software upgrades improves what is a poorly thought out phone interface. I got it for the extras but never thought that its base function as a phone would be so badly engineered. the only good thing it does as a phone is it is clear once you get connected.

I have to agree with many of DJM's comments above (except for the voicecall, for which I don't actually need to look closely at the phone).

A number of the shortcomings DJM cited are common to the iPhone as well. It DOES take too many steps to make a phone call and without dedicated number buttons is not as fast or convenient to dial as an old flip-phone. However, this is the same problem on the iPhone, as well as many other SmartPhones. I would love for one of the (4) exterior "buttons" to be dedicated to open the phone app.

I have owned (6) Palm Treo's (600's and 650's) then finally got the original iPhone after my last Treo finally died.
I'm not loyal to any one brand or device. I'm loyal to myself, and I simply want the best device available for my priorities.

The Droid is decent and am likely to keep it. Yes, it has some cool, amazing features, and might be the best non-corporate-email-oriented-device Verizon has but let's be honest, it's far from a truly outstanding device, as shipped:

  • Battery life - horrendous
  • Outlook sync - epic failure
  • Email (non-Gmail version) - would have to improve significantly just to be considered equal to the mediocre iPhone email client.
  • Visual Voicemail doesn't work when WiFi is connected. And the Visual Voicemail client isn't integrated to the phone app - totally lame
My list of Pro's is longer than my list of Con's, otherwise I would not be likely to keep it.

Attention guys. Please don't let this thread get out of control. Keep it on topic PLEASE. Also the name calling isn't necessary here. If anyone has an issue with that please PM me so we can discuss it

I have a Moto Droid, I gave it a 4. I told myself the last time I bought bleeding edge tech...not to (Qualcomm/Palm Smartphone - the first one ever). But I couldn't resist. I learned just to have more realistic expectations. I'm hanging on to my Droid!

I gave it a 4, it's a great phone just a little laggy at times and the other obvious issues are still at hand. If a patch is scheduled soon and addresses these issues it'll be a 5, easy...

I am looking seriously at getting the Droid when I upgrade in early 2010. Is there a chance there will be an app by then that will make the Droid sync with outlook?

Best Phone Available Today

I don't believe that a phone must be impossibly perfect to be rated a 5. The Droid is, imo, the best phone available today. Rating: :heart::heart::heart::heart:

I give the Droid a 5. I've owned a Treo and a BB over the past few years. The Droid is by far the best. I followed android news for quite a while and I knew there'd be some shaking out of a new devise. Not surprised or disappointed by this at all. It's part of the fun.

LMAO...I am also waiting on Monopoly, Ha Ha Ha

Ive only had my phone a week so I dont think its really too fair to judge it yet...I gave it a 4, only because of the texting features, and I was also spoiled by having awesome cut and paste features in the past as well. BUT i do still LOVE this Phone!!

Too early for me to rate it. I definitely like a lot of the features but have encountered a few issues in just a couple of days that are pretty significant for me. I modified some settings and hope they don't happen again.

Best features for me so far: customizable, good stuff on the market, notifications.

Downfalls: Phone is actually hard to use (not intuitive at all). The camera is a disappointment. I am unable to take photos indoors in darker conditions that I used to be able to take with my very outdated Treo and the lag on taking the photos (maybe just when using flash?) is significant - then the frozen photo preview isn't even the photo I end up with! Hopefully software updates will fix?
