My 1st "i" type phone

Being my 1st phone of this nature I'm experiencing a steep learning curve. That said, I have experienced some very awesome attributes! Probably my biggest complaint currently is retreiving my voice messages. I have to enter my password (wish I could turn this off) and sometimes, even when I know I'm in strong signal range, I get an error message saying "I'm sorry, that is not the correct password..."! I've even tried implementing the pause and prompt options to no avail. I really don't think I should have to pay the monthly fee for the Visual VM. Related to this is the fact that often I have to repeatedly tap-tap-tap-tap-tap a button before it accepts it.

Otherwise, I'm very much enjoying learning more about my Droid! I gave it a 4 out of 5.

A definite 5 out of 5 for this one.

Simply put. It runs Android, is fully rootable and customizable, feature rich, excellent and quickly growing app store, fast and reliable, not on AT&T and not an iPhone. Right there is enough to give this phone a 5. Hell I would give it a higher score but I can't edit the poll to allow me to do so. :)

I love my Droid. Much nicer than my BlackBerry was. I gave it a 4. I got spoiled by the BlackBerry's seamless Outlook integration. The Droid seems to need some help on that front. Otherwise, it's awesome. Rooted it, overclocked it and loaded a custom ROM and I love it even more. But the stock 2.0.1 is still worth a 4 vote.

The keyboard really dropped my rating. Also, battery life and camera hurt my opinion of the droid. I returned it for these 3 reasons.

This is the first smart phone Ive had so I cant compare it to others and Ive only had it for about 3 weeks but so far I love it so I gave it a 5.

I kind of wish I would have waited for the Nexus1 to come to verizon since it has better hardware specs than the droid but we can still get a 1ghz clock speed on the droid (cant really do much about the memory though other than using a swap file)!

I'm a very tough critic. That said, this phone gets a very solid and extremely surprising 4. I was expecting much worse.

PROS: Superb browsing, great screen resolution, full featured web apps for running a web site, office and virtually anything you want. Email SUCKS but the surprising K-9 open source client just is the bomb. If you need something, chances are it's here and you just have to spend a significant time investment to put it together.

CONS: Still crashes far too often and lacks a true sense of reliability like the Blackberry and iPhone, especially things like voice/video recording. OS needs some work but Droid model lacks phone dock to quickly get to and from phone app, which is important. Third party apps solve this but will drain battery and slow down Droid a little. Battery life is truly dismal - I have brightness/contrast on the lowest setting and I still will barely get through the day with normal usage, iPhone certainly got better battery life. My guess is I'll get 2.5 hours of straight usage, perhaps only a little more, with the Internet. Talk time is much better than Internet usage. Keyboard SUCKED but incredibly, I actually found myself getting very good with the keyboard after a week.

Pros that make up for a lot of cons:
- Keyboard brilliantly has period, comma, question mark and @ key as instant keys, no shift required. Damned amazing and puts the BB to shame.
- Incredible resolution making PDF and docs and miniature web pages readable
- K9: Other than annoyance of backing in/out and memory issues from doing so, perhaps the best most full featured email client I've had since the Treo and Snappermail... this is close.
- OS and apps work better than most iPhone applications in terms of capabilities and extensibility. Yes, some of them are still first generation but being able to download docs, read in any application, manipulate docs -- I can get over some of the awkwardness.

The Droid needs work but at this point it's far more useful than the iPhone (great as a "read only" device for people who want a music player, a phone, PIM and a little more) and is the only touch screen/hi res device with a hardware keyboard (besting the BB which browsing is impossible for me.) I expected to give it a three. Solid four, I really like it after spending 30 days with it.

i just got my Motorola Droid on friday and i LOVE it!!!! it's a whole lot better than my phone i had with at&t. their signal was terrible so i left them. and i am so happy!!!! the DROID does EVERYTHING!!!!!! i can't put it down! it's so cool! i wish we could give more than 5...
i get full signal at home, real fast web searching (goodbye dialup)!, all kind of cool free apps. and the list goes on and on.
no complaints!

No Flash Player?

That's a question I've wondered as well, but haven't had the opportunity to research it yet for possible alternatives!?

My hope is the ability to uninstall wasted garbage. Now Google's Goggles is "on deck?" I'm running out of room quickly and the last thing I need is yet another worthless piece of garbage sitting in memory, e.g. media player, Google Goggles, Visual Voice Mail, etc. I shoudn't have to root my phone to correct all the things apps like media player automatically do since they have not one preference. Hopefully someone who has the update can comment.

i give it a 3

i give it a 3 here is why the software on the phone tarrable talk quality not to motos's standards two meny button pushes to do things nothing is stright foward it seames that you have to do a lot of work arounds for standard stuff on other phones no speed dial bt headsets dont work you still have to make a call through button pushes and the one that is the most disapointing is the looks no widgets like htc phones or should i say no guee interface from motorola a square clock for home screen when thir is a nice led clock in other functions of the phone its heavy, big ,and need a constant power supply
the only reason i gave it a 3 is the phone its self is very well built has a great touch screen but sometimes hard to use acedental button pushes when scrolling
