Proximity sensor won't turn off

I restarted my phone cause it was running slow and since then the little red proximity light on the top right next to the speaker is staying on. Its getting really annoying when my finger accidentally goes by it and it locks my phone. Is it something to do with the in pocket detector? Please help!

If it's a light (as you say), that's not the proximity sensor, it's the notificationLED/light. If you have pocket detection turned on and the screen turns off when you put your finger over the proximity sensor, it's working properly. Pocket Detection has lead to lock-ups on many people's phones.

Also, if you are using a screen protector try taking it off. Some of them can block sensors if not installed properly.
