Really? Really? I loved those bionic commercials. I've seen each of them dozens of times. And I just rewatched them again after reading your post. There isn't a single thing in any of the commercials that is inaccurate. Everything they said the Bionic will do, it does. they made a marketing campaign which highlighted things that the phone actually does. How is that false pretenses?
And your second point makes absolutely no sense. I like the Bionic better than what I've seen from the Razr so far. What in the world does that have to do with not thinking people should get to exchange a product for something newer because they think they'll like it better.

No, and trust me, this is not a personal vendetta against you. Let me try and simplify it a bit. The Bionic was 'Billed' as the phone to 'Rule All Machines", leaving viewers with the impression that it was unmatched in quality and performance. All the while, they knew that a phone of similar caliber was going to be released a month later. The commercial should have gone like something a long the lines, "The Phone To Rule All Machines!, Unless You Like the Other Flagship Phone we will be releasing in a month"... Bottom line is, VZW promoted this phone as the best it had to offer, it does everything, etc etc. Then WOW out of no where they release another phone a month later, they bill as the best phone. We all know, for the umteenth time today, that there is always going to be something better tomorrow. But VZW purposely delayed the release announcing the RAZR before the Bionic. That is being duped.

There are many ways they could have handled this better, but instead of keeping Bionic owners up to date with any fixes, they through a new, better (To some) phone in their faces. It's really not that hard to understand...

The difference in what?

Look at cars. When a new car model is coming out, dealers will still push the old one with full knowledge a better product might be out in a few weeks.

Ive seen a bunch of people in brand new 2010 Mustangs with the 305hp engine. I think to myself, "Wow, they shoulda waited for the 2011 with 400+hp"
If they didnt know about the 400hp version, it wasnt the dealer's job to inform them that it was coming out soon. Their only goal is to sell cars. Likewise, Moto doesnt have to reveal their entire product map to you.
It sucks that the RAZR is coming out so soon after the Bionic, but Moto is in no way responsible for giving you a new device. The only thing you can do is vote with your pocketbook and buy another product.

I bought my 2010 GT knowing full well the 5.0 was coming, and used it to my advantage to get a helluva deal. ;)

It's not that the Bionic sucks now or that we are not happy with it, it's that phone marketed as a flagship device (inb4 they never used the word flagship) usually are the best and awesome for a little while especially with the same company. They had a a better phone in hand, it was/is probably being made right now in a factory at the time when they said the Bionic is the best, we didn't expect it to be the "best" for a month and a half. If it had a sliding keyboard, was 3G only or was released in early Jan then no harm no problem. But to release another phone similar in shape, business oriented, with better software, better contruction and better hardware so soon is a slap in the face. BTW i love my Bionic, but what i just said is why people are made, they should of gave us a choice, they knew and they had it, they could have but would screw loyal customers out of choice and get back their money on all the R&D spent on the Bionic.

Making a comment on people saying that everyone loves their Bionic and that most would not exchange or return it for a RAZR yet those same people are saying Moto would lose alot of money from all the returns from Bionics, basically flip flopping on the issue to serve their purpose.

Shadez,

With all due respect,
You keep saying "A month later".
Be fair, it will be at least 2 months post Bionic release that RAZR will be released.

This thread is Android fanboys at their worst. More than half of the posters don't even have this phone. Instead they are here to tell us how smart they are and how stupid we are to validate their decision (and their pathetic lives) not to buy this phone.

This is the first time in smart phone history that a company released a new flagship and then basically a substantial upgrade within 2 months. The RAZR and Bionic are meant to appeal to the same buyer at the same price point which was different than the Droid X2 and the Droid 3. Those 2 phone were priced lower which justified their lesser features.

Of course this is a snaky, slimy move by VZW and Motorola. If anybody should be smirking, it should be the Apple fanboys who never have to worry about this and know they will be treated the right way when something like this happens.

I never thought this was personal against me. I'm not trying to be personal against you or anyone else with this point of view, I just think the point of view itself is just bad. For one, the argument about something better coming along has been used ad nauseum, so I won't rehash that even though I think its valid. But let me ask you this: The Bionic was supposed to be release somewhere around May but had problems and was cancelled/delayed and was released 4 months later. What would VZW/Moto do if they took the approach of marketing the Bionic in a way that let people know the Razr was expected to come out two months later, and then the Razr had problems and had a four month delay?
Moto/Vzw did this the only way they could and the same way any business would.
And like I said earlier, they have let us know that a fix is coming early November, so I'm not sure what you're getting at there.

I disagree with your statement, but when you state it that way the argument does make sense.

You are correct, it's been more then a month, but the time frame is still the same. I was merely using month since its technically a little more then a month and a 1/2 .. Sept 8th I believe, I could be wrong, I don't remember the exact date.

Month or two, making a phone and a upgraded version of the phone at the same time with intent to sell the upgraded version after the inferior one has been sold for a little over a month is inherently deceptive, slimy, sneaky and wrong. Again, repeating myself and others, if it had a keyboard, was 3G only or was releasing early JAN 2012, no problem, releasing it 2 months after? deceptive, slimy, sneaky and wrong.

It's not an upgraded version of the same phone. It's a different phone.
Can you replace the battery on a RAZR? No.
Does the Bionic have the splash guard technology? No.

They are different form factors. They have different features. They are different phones.

And I'm going to be very interested to see how the RAZR handles battery life.
The LTE radio is still a power hog... the battery is just *slightly* larger than the stock Bionic battery.
It should be interesting to see the response once the phone is actually released.

Either way I will remain happy with my Bionic.

Samsung just announced the Galaxy Nexus last night. According to the signup page, it will be available on all carriers. Is Samsung also the Devil since they just released the Galaxy S2 and already have the Galaxy Nexus ready for release?
This is the future guys. Product cycles are getting shorter and shorter. The days of a flagship phones being the top phone for 6 or more months is over. Its the nature of technology.

From that post it seems like we are trying to say the same thing but using a different method of thinking. I've been working in the music industry for 20+ years, promoting/marketing. And, I'll give Motorola the benefit of doubt that they had a tough choice in making the decision to announce the razr yesterday.

Personally, if I was with motorola marketing, I wouldn't have chosen to announce it the same day another corporation is announcing their new flagship phone. I would have waited till after, it's a well known fact that the last thing a person hears, they remember the most/best. That's why in any criminal trial, the prosecution gets the last word in closing arguments, because they have the burden to prove their case.

But back on subject, I do own a bionic, and am happy with it, issues and all, and have stated I don't want a RAZR or a NEXUS for that matter.

Did you ever see the tv commercial for I believe an insurance company, where the guy asks the little kid if she wants a pony, and he gives her a toy pony, then another girl walks in and he asks her the same thing, and he gives her a real pony? The little girl says "Hey I want a real pony" The guy says, "Well she's new", the first little girl goes, "I'm New too!" the guy, "Well she's NEWER".

Same scenario, don't neglect your older customers who have a vested interest in their purchase and expect a certain amount of support to go a long with it. Support and customer service, a long with communication goes a long way...

Does my boss's Bionic have a Skinomi screen protector like my Bionic? no? Totally different phones! They are the same form factor as in they are 4.3" 4g candybar phones slim with a camera hump. If one had a sliding keyboard then that's a different form factor and we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

1) Galaxy S2 has been out since May.
2) Nexus is Verizon exclusive for some period of time, so it will be even longer before launching on carriers that have the S2.
