Overall, it's my impression that you guys are doing an excellent job. I haven't seen many examples of the abuse of power and control, and generally you use appropriate limits, sensitivity and tact. That's kind of hard to develop with a set of bureaucratic rules, it's more of a positive culture that you have fostered.

+1 for Jasmo! I agree with this but would have added it's nice that it's all done with a sense of humor and no one seems to take themselves too seriously - except maybe for that Sam guy...

I think the mods and admins do a good job too. Sometimes they are busy running around keeping things running smooth and we don't even notice it. They are on top of the threads and quickly will take action if it is needed but also will show restraint and let the members hash it out for a while. If they don't then you see a warning the thread will be closed. If it still persists then all these anti-flaming posts show up :) But it is good to see incremental steps taken.

Sometimes it also is faster to close a thread than to clean it up. I recently inquired about a thread because I looked for it and it was gone. I knew I posted in the thread and knew the topic, so found it via Google. Here's an example: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/adamz/34773-no-security-kernels.html

For all I know members got into a fistfight later on in the thread and it got deleted. The first few posts were insightful and informative so I'm not sure when it went south, but I'm sure something prompted it to be worthy of at least being closed off with a warning to not stray into that subject area. So my request is to clean up and close a thread rather than just have it vanish, unless the entire thread is spam, porn, and warez.

IMHO the mods and admins here do an excellent job. This is a large community with greatly varied opinions and levels of experience. Keep up the great work.

All you people here do an excellant job. I've been so impressed with this site and how it is handled. Yes, you have a wide range of people and users here which makes your jobs harder.

I'm a new droid user and am new to the forums but what I see, I like.

I have not visted all of the areas of this site but I can see maybe one suggestion. I know tech heads are tech heads (and I understand that) they sometime can't think like say maybe grandma. How about setting up something based on knowledge??? Not sure, how you would do it.

Some area where the grandma's of the site would be comfortable to chat and the tech heads would not have to visit. Yes, I'm a step grandma (6 little boogers) but I am also a ra ra cheerleader and a can see that the ladies could get overhelmed. Just like everyone to feel comfortable. Just a thought, I mean no disrespect. Maybe this is already in place and I have not explored it.

Anyhow, Hats off!! Great Job!!! RA RA RA!!!!!

Well Sam I say overall you guys do a good job. Not knowing some of the issues behind some of the closed/edited/deleted threads I can't comment on those. Sometimes people will react too quickly to something and that's just human nature. You guys try your best to keep things friendly around here and I know it's not easy. So my only real suggestion would be to, as christim always says, slow down a little and see if there is a real issue before making that quick decision.

Also, as a group you have shown to be open to new ideas and very supportive in getting some things going around here. :D

If I'm still posting here, it's still a good site :D

I was banned at androidforums by 'Phases' because he didn't understand that 'morans' or 'lotta morons in this thread' is a tongue-in-cheek internet meme (which I never directed at any individual -- and of all things was in reference to posters not reading past the first post or doing a search). The ban came after a stern warning when I explained it was in jest and told him not to be silly. Regardless, I simply refuse to contribute to any forum where the admin reacts like a child and refuses to admit a simple misunderstanding.

No such misunderstandings here though, the Admins/Mods seem intelligent enough to be able to discern the difference between nonsense and acrimony.

Glad to continue to contribute on these here fine forums :)

Off the top of my head there are 5 mods, I think 5 smods and the admins. I could be off a number or two on that.

but I will say I'm surprised at who you see post the most around here. Vulcan and CK are around a lot, but the top two posters on the entire board are myself and backnblack. ;)

Overall the mods do a good job, but there is always room for improvement. I've actually been a moderator on sites as large as this one, and know what a tedious task it is. It's important to always see where there is room for improvement.

Off the top of my head:

--Yes, hard set rules should be posted. With Set Warning system in place (IE 1st offence, 2nd offence, etc.. Most forums have a 3 strikes rule.) Don't assume everyone knows forum Etiquette.

--Hot Topics should be sticky'd so multiple threads don't keep popping up vs just keep closing them: The Search function on the site isn't really helpful, so perhaps not be so rude to the accidental double threads. I know you guys get sick of seeing the same thing over and over, but most people don't look back more then 3 pages worth of threads, and since the website tends to lead you to more specified forum sections vs the whole forum. so post in other sections are often missed.

--There is never an excuse for a moderator to be snippy/rude with people. Being a moderator should not be considered a position of power, but one of customer service. That currently doesn't come across here.

The close/edited/deleted threads shouldn't be happening as much now that 2.1 is out and everybody has it. During the first few days we were trying to keep the amount of threads down, and I know for a fact that I upset a few people in one thread but at the time that was what the admins wanted and that's what I was doing. I can't apologize for following orders, I can say that going forward anybody I delete a thread or even edit a thread will receive a pm from me explaining why that happened. The only reason for editing a thread really is because of language but I feel that the poster should be notified.

I personally have had a few post deleted with no merrit at all... no pm saying why, no warning, no nothing... just deleted and nothing ever said about it.

This should not be happening..... censoring your members when they are not breaking the rules is not a good thing. Hopefully some change is in order.

Other then the few "friends with benifits" we see here and there... and overlooking my post being deleted... it's running pretty well.
