notification reset

how do you get the notification symbol to just let you know how many unchecked items since last time. (ie when I get a text, the icon shows 17, but all except one are old,it should say 1)

make sure you actually OPENED those 17 texts, getting a text notification and then clearing it, doesnt mean the next one is (1) it's gonna be (2) and continue to add until you go in and check it.

If you done that and it continues, just erase them and start fresh.
