Persistent Voicemail Symbol on Notification Bar

I have a persistent Voicemail notification (the old reel to reel tape symbol) on my notification bar that I cannot get rid of, even though I am not using the regular voicemail but rather Google Voice and even the regular voicemail app when called says I have no voicemails. When pulled down, the notification says I have one voice mail. I have disabled the regular voice mail app, but that didn't get rid of the notification.

Any suggestions short of a FDR?

Thanks for any help.

What about wiping data in the voicemail app?

Did you try to call your phone number and listen to your voicemails? When this same thing has happened to me in the past, calling and listening to my voicemail old school style removed that icon.

If you are a Google Voice user, for some reason I lost my auto-forwarding to GV after an update. I had to manually setup my phone to forward to my GV number. See Google Voice FAQ for instructions.

1.Try to listen to all your VMs for any unopened messages. If you still see the icon simply follow these two steps
2.Long press on the voice mail icon
3. press "clear data"
Youre good to go!!!!
