No WIFI hotspot fix for rooted GB?

Did you miss the part where he said read your contract?
no i didnt

What don't you get then? Or are you just ok with stealing?

If you guys are so into evangelism, why don't you do it for a better cause than making a telephone company rich. You could be using your efforts for world peace or feeding the hungry; instead, you're just filling up threads with posts that repeat the same message. We get it already, you think people who tether w/o paying are bad. :icon_rolleyes:

I hope not. Thats one of the reasons phones are getting locked down. Dont get me wrong O think we should be able to do whatever the hell we want with our 3G and not pay more to do it.

you do not own the network. verizon can do whatever they want with it. you own the phone, so feel free to modify that as you please, but stealing 3G to tether is the reason all of this is "going down"

and you can't use the "we get unlimited data" arguement. you get unlimited data through the phone not through the computer you are tethering off of the phone....read your contract.

Well said. And yes, the stealing of revenue from Verizon IS the reason they will crack down on rooting. They could care less if you want to install themes, roms, etc. But take money away from one of the larges US companies, watch out.

I've had my X for 8 months. I tethered once for about 10 min when I had a blackout at my house with my laptop. It's those who abuse it that cause a problem. Considering I may only use it a few times a year when in a tight spot I really don't feel bad about it nor would I purchase that service due to my very infrequent use.

I pay almost $100/month for this "service", I'll be damned if I'm going to pay another $20/month, to tether my laptop, while I'm on vacation in the north woods a few times a year.

I've been harmlessly tethering for years with windows mobile devices (at the cabin). All these self rightous android noobs make me laugh.

They would have a lot less theft of service, if they just had a better pricing structure. Stop trying to soak us for every last penny and they would spend a lot less trying to fight it.

If my "unlimited" plan was capped at 5Gb/month and included tethering, I would be one happy camper. Until then, happy tethers...

My .50¢

You realize you can add and remove the feature at any time right? You don't even have to call to add it, just turn on the the app and agree to add the feature.

Though i do agree with u that the pricing on tethering is dumb, its not the choice of android people. Its the manufactuers. So do you DARE conpare manufactuers to android "noobs". we r nothing like them. Phrase ur words better sir.

There seems to be a lot of people here who talk the talk, but I wonder if they really walk the walk. What is the difference from tethering and rooting? Except you root which makes it OK but supposedly you don't tether. If rooting was legal the companies wouldn't lock down their phones.

Companies locking down their phones is due to the fact that in most cases, some phones are loaded down with bloat they get paid for and you can remove it with root. Also, some phones share parts that allow certain features which are blocked on a different or lower model, like the dx has fm radio and only a rooted d2 can use that same radio because of the part used being shared and unlockable. I don't tether, but i don't care who does. Cell phone companies and providers are working together to do what apple tried to do and failed, only the difference is that a provider can refuse service if they decide you broke contract. Tethering without paying breaks contract, usb or wireless. Rooting is not illegal. Stealing is.

Rooting is legal...seeing as it is basically the same thing as "Jailbreaking" an iPhone...and that was legalized back a year or so...

The difference between rooting, which is just giving you root access to the phone, and illegal tethering, is simple...one of these is taking a service that costs and using it for free...which by definition is stealing...

Oh how im glad to see that Verizon hired alot of tether cops :icon_ banana: the same people who's throwing the stealing card in, most likely tethered before verizon even came out with the tether package. Y'all seriously need to stop ridin Verizon's nuts
Well, I cant speak for anyone but myself...I knew as soon as I rooted my phone and downloaded Wireless Tether for Root Users I was stealing a paid for service...

I also knew that I would not be using it to replace my home Cable Internet connection, regardless of the fact that I pay $180 a month for my cable service...or that I pay in excess of $240 a month for my Cellular Phone Service which includes Unlimited Data on 2 lines.

At best, I intended on using the tether ability about 2 times a month...when I would be away on military duty and away from a dedicated internet connection. Instead, I havent used it in months...whatever I need to do on the internet, I can do quite well on my DX...

The fact is, semantics aside, if you tether without purchasing a tether plan, you are stealing a paid for service...not only breaking your TOS, but also risking criminal charges that can result in fines and possible jail time. Argue the point all you want, but it is clearly described in the fine print of your contract...Unlimited Cellular Data is for a Cellular Device designated as such under the contract and assigned a unique ID number...(likely not in those exact words, but instead in a bunch of "legalese")

And who are you? verizon's lawyer? seriously where was all this before verizon even had a tethering plan? My omnia tethers without a problem, my D1 tethered without a threat at all, but Verizon found this way to make money and jumped on it like a runaway train to Paris. Greed is the root of all evil, not Tethering :P tell that to your verizon rep.

+1 I think they should lower the price of the mobile hotspot feature cause 30$ is a lil steep and im already paying 30$ a month for unlimited 3G data, which it should honestly just be included in that. But I much rather just not use the feature and keep my phone open to modding/Custom ROMs, then use it for free and get my phone locked down. And I think if people stopped using rooted phones to get free services like that, and only for having root access to files and being able to use and develop Custom ROMs and themes/addons, then companies like Motorola would be more willing to unlock their bootloader. Which honestly I think will happen eventually. But it would happen a lot faster if people didn't use the free hotspot hack anymore. But like I said, VZW does need to lower the price on that, which in turn would help stop people from using the hack. 60$ a month for 3G and mobile hotspot is way too much for the average consumer. And really, the hotspot feature is running off your 3G so of you want to hook another one of you or a friends devices to it you shouldnt have to pay out the ass for it. Or at least only have to pay like maybe 10 or 15$ more. Just my thoughts on the matter.

Regardless of when vzw inacted their mobile hot spot feature at a charge the point is they now charge ....as with anything else if there is a fee for an item or service and you take it without paying you are stealing very basic morals here people. And as a few others stated the unlimited is for you deceive to use/on the device. I don't see any of this as defending vzw im sure we would all love free teather but most of us have the morals to not steal. And really rooted has nothing to do with it because there are teather apps you can use non rooted. They are unrelated really. Im rooted I did not steal from Verizon to do so. I have teathered pre root using pdanet but since I did not want to pay for the app I don't use it because you can't get secure sites so it was useless. And yes it was stealing when I did it it is not an excuse that I only did it once or twice it was still stealing it does not matter how often you do or don't do it.

Like I said, I think its ridiculous to have to pay 30$ a month for it, and I think it should come free if you choose the 30$ a month unlimited data plan, or at least only be 10$ extra, but since its not, I just don't use it even tho I can get it for free cause I dont wanna contribute to the reason VZW wants manufacturers to lock their phones down. Better to be part of the solution. But I do think VZW is being friggin greedy. 30$ a month is too much for people I know like myself. We already pay for all the other bells and whistles and were also tying to pay rent, college, bills, and other stuff like that. I'm 24 and most people my age are the kind if people that have a need for hotspot, but we are also the least likely to afford it cause most of us are either in college or just getting out so we don't have super great jobs it careers, and in this economy its hard enough to make ends meet. But yet just to enjoy using my phone as a modem I have to drop another 30$ for something I would only use a couple times a month. But having it for the few times a month would be so helpful. But since I don't wanna be part of the problem like I said, I just live without it. It pisses me off tho that at a time when things need to be cheaper, in this economy, companies like VZW do the opposite and charge more. Because apparently that's the american way. Cause companies like VZW don't already have enough money.
