No unlimited data for s4?!?!

Or this one? Not sure which menu I should go by. Of course they were taken at different times but im wondering what I should pay more attention to

OK, this is your first assignment and I'm grading it. ;)

Either ask your parents if they keep their monthly statements OR

Second, you can also ask your parents to log into Verizon Wireless, and go to:

https://nbillpay.verizonwireless.com/vzw/accountholder/mybill/BillingSummary.action

Either way it will take 5 minutes. Report back after finding the data usage for YOUR LINE for the last 6 months, and please note the usage for each month.

NOTE: if your parents say something like, "We can't be bothered with that -- leave us alone" that basically means you stop hassling them and that's the end of this saga.

As a parent, I have a feeling that there is a reason why your parents may or may not be willing to help. I have a teenage son and guess who has unlimited data in my household. Hint....it's the person that pays the bill. When he watches youtube or streams, he has two choices; use his computer or use his iPad. I have no idea how old you or your sister are but there really are some people that have an addiction. Talk to your parents!!!! that would settle things once and for all. (They either support you regaining unlimited or they don't) If they don't support it, let us know when you get your own account. Not trying to be harsh but this thread could go forever and there is absolutely nothing that anyone on here can do for you, other than give advise. There has been a lot of good advice given.

Can someone on a shared plan please confirm?

TBM, if that *is* mostly your sister, she needs to be taken out back and given a firm talking-to! :cus:

-Matt

It says on that screen "measured by your device" so I would assume this is just what's been used on the new phone, not what's been used by all users on the account.

Also, the data that vzw has isn't guaranteed to match this figure, but it should be close.

Looks like many people with those share your money with Verizon plans will be dropping them for t-mobile or sprint pretty soon, look it has started already, feeding the public nothing but BS, those share everything plans are nothing but a way for Verizon and AT&T to fleece the consumer dry, and accelerating the fleecing with those high speed 4G devices, those crooks at Verizon had a plan as soon as they saw how much data those 4G lines would be using, so they went into overdrive trying to convince the masses *sheep*, with the share your money with us plans, they knew where the killing could be made, and have executed the plan to perfection, they are worse than drug dealers, and that is an understatement. If t-mobile and sprint can offer unlimited data and phone and text for a lower price, than you know that the other carriers are doing nothing but ripping you off, and people let it just happen. Good thing I still have unlimited data, once they take it away, I will tell Verizon thanks but no thanks, and t-mobile or sprint here I come. I mean it is become so obvious that they are ripping off the public and no one is saying anything about it, except the t-mobile CEO. They duped my brother into the share all your money with us plan, his wife and daughter lost their unlimited. I was in the Verizon store recently and almost got sick listening to one of these sales "drones" people trying to make sense of the share your money with us plan to a pair of uninformed customers , it was like a drug dealer trying to sell gigs of data, just sickening if you ask me.

I have unlimited data and a droid razr. I'm thinking of getting an S4. I figured the cost to get a contract phone, over my current costs, would be ~$440 ($10/month more for 2GB plan + ~$200 for phone) as opposed to ~$580 to buy an S4 on eBay and keep my Unlimited plan. So it would cost me ~$140 more to keep my plan & buy a phone on eBay - or about $5/month over two years. Needless to say, I'd rather keep my unlimited and buy the phone on eBay.

Since I've never done that before, can you guys tell me - exactly - what I need to do? Can I insert my sim card from my Razr into the S4 and go online and somehow attach the S4 to my acct instead of the Razr? Or do I need to go into Verizon to do it. I guess my fear is the dealer would take away my unlimited, but it sounds like they won't do that from what I've read here.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sally, quick question -- what did you mean by:

$10/month more for 2GB plan

Are you thinking (a) of starting a new line ($10/month), using that to buy the phone at the new-line price, and then transferring it to your unlimited line, or (b) did you mean you'd use the upgrade on your unlimited line, converting it to a fixed 2GB plan? Sorry if I'm confused, but here are the choices as I understand them:

- if you get the second line, you wouldn't need to keep a data plan on it -- you could make it a "dumbphone" line once the phone is moved to your unlimited line

or

- if you decided to use the upgrade on the unlimited line, I'd assume your $30/month data fee would stay the same, except data would be capped at 2GB -- no additional $10 for doing that (but that's an awful choice!)

Your overall math makes sense, I just didn't get the part about the 2GB plan.

plan.webpSorry, that wasn't clear. Currently my unlimited is $65/month. If I go to the individual 2GB plan, it's $75/month. So that's where I came up with the $10/month. But I wouldn't be adding a line or upgrading at all if I can just buy the phone on eBay and switch it onto my current line in place of my Razr.

Ahhhhh...wow, $65/month? That seems more than average to me -- I wonder why? Sorry for not getting that (my wife and I pay $30 each). And something seems even fishier with the 2GB plan -- that should be $30/month too. Doesn't it boggle your mind that your rate would go UP and you'd get less data???

EDIT: wait, just occurred to me -- do you also have a hotspot feature?

Are you sure you're on Earth? Those sound like the prices on Venus and Mars. :)

Verizon, right? Maybe put me on as an authorized rep for your account and I'll have a word with them!

-Matt

haha - you can gladly get on the phone for me if you can get me a plan for $30!!! But if you look at the breakdown it's $30 for the data and $40 for the talk and $5 for the text. Currently I have some loyalty program that gives me a $10 break on the talk.

Yeah, it's a rip off to me to pay more and get less! I had double your data at 4GB prior to getting Unlimited and called Verizon to see if they would drop me back to that if I got a contract phone but they said no. I don't think you can even get individual plans anymore unless you already had one - they're really pushing the Share stuff.

So I want to just buy a phone and not renew my contract if it means keeping my unlimited data, even though I don't use that much. But what I don't understand is the process of how I go from buying a phone on eBay to replacing the Razr on my account.

Your numbers are way OFF, it would actually cost you WAY more with the new share all your money with us plan, you are just better buying a phone on eBay like I did, you will probably need a new sim card, which should be no problem by walking into a verizon wireless store and have them insert on in the new phone YOU bought, and make sure they don't screw up your plan while doing so, make sure the plan is the same when you leave the store. But I am sure you will have no problems, since you bought the phone outright, they can not change your plan, unless you specifically ask them to.
Now in regards to the numbers you said you are paying $65 a month for your current unlimited plan, if that is the case, with the new share all your money with Verizon plans, the cheapest one would be $100 a month for you, that is a $35 increase with only 2 GIGS of data, over two years, you will pay an additional $840 and you will be limited to only 2 GIGS a month. You can get a great deal on eBay for around $400-$500, for a used in great shape S4 if you do your homework, I got myself a used/as new S4 with two otterbox cases, one commuter and one Defender with holster, and one Samsung 32gig micro SD card for $475 over a month ago, phone and accessories came like I bought them new. Even if you pay $500 for the phone you still save $350 over two years. If you decide to buy a phone on eBay, make sure the seller sends you the ESN number before you complete the transaction, then just go to Verizons or www.swappa.com website and check it. On swappas website the link is at the top next to FAQ it says ESN.

$65 is the total bill, are you on mars? :icon_ devil:

OK, thanks for explaining -- much clearer now. I think we started off with different assumptions (I have unlimited like you, by the way!). Let me try some math, holding the talk ($40) and text ($5) constant across options:

Scenario 1: use your upgrade on unlimited line

$200 for new phone
$30 same cost for data, but switch to 2GB capped plan

Total new cost = $200 for new phone but you lose unlimted

Scenario 2: buy used phone on eBay

$350 (random guess) for used/like new phone
$30 unlimited data unchanged***

Total new cost = $350 (or as much as $500) for used phone

Scenario 3: buy new phone at full price

$600 (or so) for unsubsidized phone
$30 unlimited data unchanged***

Total new cost = ~$600 (ouch)

Scenario 4 (discussed at length on this thread): use a new line to do the "switcheroo"
Use new line to buy new smartphone, then smartphone is switched immediately to the unlimited line, and the new line is switched to a call-only feature phone

$200 subsidized phone, put on new line
$10/month for a new line
$30 unlimited data unchanged***

Total new cost = $200 + $240 (plus monthly taxes/fees) = ~$480

To conclude, Scenarios 2-4 preserve your unlimited data plan, with new costs (over 2 years) of ~$350-$500, ~$600, ~$480.

It sounds like you're leaning toward the "eBay" option. If so, I think other members here will help more but my understanding is once you received the used phone, you can either go into a Verizon store to get a new SIM card, or call VZW and they'll mail you one. I can't say for sure that you could use the one from your previous phone. HOWEVER, the one thing other owners here will help with is ensuring that you check the phone ID and make sure that it's good.

And oh I just caught something: you shouldn't pay $580 for a like-new S4 on ebay -- a few owners here have seen much better deals.
