No unlimited data for s4?!?!

@ cybertec69, I realize it would be way more if I went with the Share. I was using data if I went with the individual 2gb plan. That's what my screen shot shows. I agree, the Share everything plan is a lousy deal.

@gadgetrants, Scenario 1 is worse than that. Since I currently get my talk for $30, my total cost is $200 for new phone + $240 (24 months of paying $10 more for talk). That means a total of $440 for the increase in cost and phone. Plus, as you say, I lose my unlimited.

I'm leaning toward Scenario 3 and have seen new phones on eBay for ~$580. No increase in my Verizon monthly fees plus I keep my Unlimted.

Just gotta find out exactly what to do. :)

Sally, you can get a better deal than $580 on eBay, be patient, as you can see I payed way less than that with accessories.

I hope so too. I'm going to keep watching - I have a saved search. Right now I'm just gathering info trying to figure out what I should do once I get the phone.

Do I go to Verizon and ask them to take off my Razr and add the G4? Or is there a way for me to do it myself. Most important is to not lose my Unlimited. So if anyone who has done this can tell me the best way, I'd appreciate it.

Once you get your new phone, just walk into Verizon have them insert the new sim card to your new phone, your plan will not change, they can not change it unless you tell them to, since you are not getting a subsidized phone from Verizon they can not change your plan, so do not worry. You can also get one of these later, so you can just use the same new sim for the S4 on your Razer, if you decide to keep the Razer as a backup.

as long as the sim required is the same size you have now, you can just put it in the phone and use it. the phone should register to your account on the first activation.
although, in some cases people have had to call or go to the store and get the phone added. dont let them trick you into anything, if they try.

the S4 requires a new micro SIM from Verizon, I think it has something to do with the S4 being able to access the new AWS network later this year when Verizon lights it up, the S4 will be one of the first devices to be able to access it. It's the extra spectrum that Verizon has purchased, which means faster data speeds, closer to what we had when the 4G network was initially deployed.

Sally thanks for posting the screenshot, just caught that!

That explains why you'd "mysteriously" increase your voice (not data) plan by $10 -- it looks like your current $30/month voice plan is not available online, so they're pushing you into a $40 plan. However, as the graphic mentions, note that you can call in and I'm sure they'd keep you at the current $30/month for voice minutes. There's no reason for the voice part of your plan to change if you swap in a different phone.

I'm also convinced from the personal experiences shared here that you can do better than upper-$500s for a newish S4. If you're not in a rush you'll find the right phone.

I would personally discourage you from paying (more or less) full price for a new phone. But then, Jonny Kansas and I already debated the "pay more/less hassle" vs. "pay less/more hassle" strategies earlier in this thread, so I won't rehash that!

You are right that the S4 will require the new SIM card to access the AWS network when it rolls out. As stated before, she can initially use the SIM from the RAZR to activate the S4. I did exactly that and then had Verizon mail me the new SIM for the S4. Sally could of course walk into the nearest Verizon store and they should also give her a new SIM card. I didn't want to go to the store and wait in a line.

Here's an odd wrinkle. I just got out of a chat support with a Verizon rep in which I simply asked:

My Droid Razr is still under contract but I'm buying a Samsung G4 on eBay that I want to replace it with. Can I just bring my G4 into any Verizon dealer to activate it and attach it to my Verizon phone number instead of my Razr?

After verifying that it was a Verizon G4, the guy repeatedly told me I should call Customer service. I asked him if there was a problem with going into a dealer and he'd just repeated that he recommend I call CS. I told him I was under the impression I could bring the G4 into a dealer, they would give me the proper sim card, activate it and put it on my account. I asked if there was a problem with doing it that way instead of calling CS and he said I could try a dealer if I wanted, but he recommended I call CS and then abruptly ended the chat session!!!

What is that all about???????????? Can a dealer (or CS) refuse to activate a phone and put it on your account or was this guy just stuck in an algorithm and didn't know how to exit gracefully?

My guess: you got a new kid on the chat line. My experience with VZW customer service is consistently good -- I'd call them up and repeat the question. Though there is a grain of reasonableness to what he said, i.e., experiences can be hit-or-miss in-store. Perhaps this is the wrong way of looking at it, but my sense is the guy on the floor is getting paid to encourage you to "walk out with more," while the gal on the phone is getting paid to "help solve your problem."

FYI: remember also that there are two kinds of stores -- the "corporate" stores are owned by Verizon Wireless, while the "authorized" stores are essentially franchises. Hence: hit-or-miss.

Do not waste your time with Verizon on the phone, just walk into one of the corporate stores, tell them you want to add the S4 or whatever phone you decide to purchase to your account and remove the Razr, in which case you will need a new SIM, they will gladly hand you a new SIM, and insert it for you into your new phone and program it, no questions asked, since you bought the phone outright your plan can NOT be changed without your consent. Make sure you have the my verizon app installed on the phone, this way you can check if your account is the same, which it will be, for them to change your account you will have to sign some paperwork and it will say it on your receipt, since you are not changing any plan, only changing your phone that you bought outright, your plan can not be changed. I have done this twice already with my unlimited data account, the first time I bought a HTC Rezound from a friend, upgraded from the HTC Incredible, we both walked into Verizon, I handed them both phones, said I was going to use the Rezound, they gladly installed the SIM to the Rezound, and deactivated the Incredible, and then tried to sell me some accessories for the Rezound, LOL. I did the same with my S4, no questions asked, account was never changed, since all I was doing was just adding a phone to the account and removing the previous phone. Once you get a SIM card adapter you can switch from one phone to the other as many times as you want, I do it all the time.

Can you elaborate on the sim card adapter? I've got a couple of phones I keep around in case one gets bricked or goes for a swim.

There are 3 types of SIM cards, Standard SIM "the first SIMS to hit the market with the initial 4G launch, a tad on the bigger side", then you got the Micro SIM which most new 4G devices use like the S3,S4, Note2 and most likely the Note3 and HTC ONE, and a few more I am not aware of, then you got the Nano SIM which started out with the iPhone5 and will be used in the new Moto X line of phones, and most likely in many newer models. So lets say you have a HTC Rezound "one of the first 4G phones on Verizon, and you decide to keep the phone and buy a S3 or S4, you would get a SIM to Micro SIM adapter, since the newer phones have a smaller SIM it would just flop aound in the Rezound once inserted, so what the adapter does is take up the whole size of a regular SIM and you just pop in the micro SIM into it, go to the Amazon Link I posted to get an idea, or just go to YouTube, I am sure there a videos with more details about it, it is not rocket science, the same would hold true if you decide to get a Moto X and have an older Micro SIM phone, you would get a Nano SIM to Micro SIM adapter.

Ahhh, so it's similar to our SD cards- sd, micro sd, etc. I'm with a d4 and d2g and the two cards aren't nearly the same albeit the global doesn't support 4g.

Thanks for the response.

Just got back from an authorized dealer store. They said "No problem" and went on to tell me what accessories they had. :-)

Now it's just a matter of waiting for the right deal on eBay!
