Nitrodesk TouchDown Price Increase from $9.99 to $19.99?

As I said earlier in this post...it seems like at the moment to some this app is a vital download. The problem is there is nothing to compete with it. All it would take is a little research on his part and time in the forums to realize this. This is why he boosted the price to what he did, when he did.

do you think that the 12/11 ota update will solve some of the problems that TD fixes...that might be his biggest competition...?

Amazing, I got so many good responses from this forum and the TouchDown group in Google. I have learned that NitroDesk initially launched this product at $29.99, bumped it down to $19.99 and was running an anniversary TLO for $9.99. So yeah, I agree with the sentiments above; "you snooze, you loose", but would have really like to know the pricing was a TLO when I was evaluating it. I just assumed it was always $9.99.

Regardless, I could not use my Droid without TouchDown! This app is a requirement for anyone that needs to connect back to their corporate exchange server. I am extremely happy with it :)

I too am underway with the trial period (day 3). This app is a must-have for me -- I don't have much hesitation in shelling out $20 for the full app.

Nitro's response is propaganda. The reason for the increase is simple. I have stated it before. But all you have to do is look at the quote above.

Keep in mind there is no other app to really compete with it so he/they become the dictator.

Then don't buy it.....

Black..did I say not to buy it or did I say I wasn't going to? If I needed to I would. But I don't...

There seems to be confusion as to why they would dare do it and I am DEFENDING the company by saying its supply and demand. Android users who need Exchange access may need an app like this. The fact that there is no other app to compete with is what allows them to dictate the market, especially when some find it vital. Does speaking the truth offend you or strike a cord?

Why are you putting words in my mouth?

I am not trying too, I mistaken thought you wanted to buy it...

I see your point about supply and demand, but I also find the line about pricing that the developer posted.

It's unlikely the developer intended it, but this is bait and switch.
No it's not. It's unfortunate timing on your part. Bait & switch is, by defintion, intentional. This is a price change with a little self entitlement sprinkled on top. Luckily for you the developer came through. I do agree, however, though that it would be best for developers to publish anticipated price changes.

@MickeyG: If the dev had intended the discount code for public consumption they would have posted it publicly -- sorry. Write to them and see what they say. Worked for me.

@takeshi: I disagree, and the resources I've researched have nothing to say regarding intent. Specifically:
...advertising a sale while intending to stock a limited amount of, and thereby sell out, the loss-leading item advertised is legal in the United States. The purveyor can escape liability if they make clear in their advertisements that quantities of items for which a sale is offered are limited.

and:
The purpose of the bait and switch tactic is to get customers to visit a store or business by advertising very low prices. Once the customer is in the store, the salespeople attempt to offer the customer items at higher prices.

However, for me the point is mute. I'm not a lawyer, and I have no real interest in the matter, nor do I believe the developer had any kind of malicious intent.

The version I have has email signatures. You can change it on the Advanced tab after you buy and register the App.

The app saved the Droid for me. Right after I purchased mine the Exchange admins at my company kicked all the Android and Pre devices off OTA syncing. Touchdown allows you to change your device type string and I am now syncing as an iPhone. :)

There are a few UI quirks with Touchdown, but in my opinion it was well worth the $20.
