Newbie question - How do I tell what ROM I'm using?

I know....this is probably the stupidest question today. I rooted my phone when I first got it a few months ago, but haven't really done much with it since I don't understand much. LOL I see listings of all these cool "ROMS" but don't really understand exactly what they are and how to use/download them. How do I tell what ROM is on my phone? Can anyone explain this to me? Please be gentle and talk to me like I'm a 3 year old. It's probably the only way I will understand it! :icon_eek:

Go to your home screen
press "menu"
press "settings"
press "about phone"
press "software information"
look under "build number" or "software number"
not sure if this is only specific to my rom. I don't remember if that info is shown on other ROMs, but give it a try.

If you haven't flashed a rom i would say your probably running the stock rom that came on your phone.

Swype'n and typin from the X
