New Gmail message = 2 notifications

When I get a new message in my gmail account, I get 2 notifications. I know why, but I don't know how to fix it.

My Droid seems to have a gmail account (by default I guess since I cannot figure out how to remove it). I also added the gmail account in my Email accounts list. I did this because I wanted all my email in one place.

What is the fix for this quandry?

what happened is i was running both the email app and gmail app at the same time, so they would both notify me. i killed the email app and just use the gmail widget from the desktop screen.

This will also happen if you're using another application to monitor and notify you of incoming emails, SMS, and missed calls. One such app is called "Missed Call" and to fix it you need to turn off the notification in Gmail, Messenger, and any other app that you want Missed Call to monitor and notify you about.

I used Missed Call because it changes the LED color on the phone when I miss a phone call versus an email or SMS.
