my droid 3 gets really hot after disconnecting from car dock

i've been using my droid 3 for about 3 month now,

it's rooted, and it works fine all the time except

when i use it for navigation in my car dock, and disconnect it after i get off the car.

After disconnecting it from car dock, it stays very hot, and drains battery very fast.

this happens almost everyday, and after rebooting it, it's fine.

i turn off the gps after i get of the car, and tried to shut apps down by ATK too, but neither fix this problem.

does anybody have a same problem or fixed it in anyways?

by the way my os is up to date, and rooted, but i didn't overclock the cpu or anything. i just deleted few apps and thats all.

I was having the same problem, as far as my phone being very hot after getting out of the car and either not showing a full charge or seeming to drain rather quickly. What I did was move my car mount not only out of the windshield and direct sunlight, but also directly in front of an a/c vent. I have had no problems since. I really recommend moving your car mount out of direct sunlight while in the car. Worst case scenario is if this doesn't solve your problem, then you have at least removed external heat as a potential cause.

sunlight? hmm

i thought that was problem too. it does get a lot of heat from direct sunlight,
but could it be the problem even after it's off the car?
heat should be cooled off, after it's disconnected from car dock, but even though i put it in cool indoor place, it seems it's keep regenerating heat.
i should try to make some sun shade for my car dock or something.

That has happened on my OG DROID and Dads DROIDX.

I just assumed it was a mix of:

1. Battery charging
2. Screen staying on
3. If using GPS that's going on
4. If the sun is out then it shins on it.

Don't quote me on this because I have no scientific evidence to back this up, it seemed to me that the phone just would not fully charge while it was in the car dock and sitting in the sunlight. It was almost as if the battery getting overheated was giving a false charge reading, as in showing a full charge of 3.7 Volts when the battery is really only charged to 3.0 Volts. Like I said, I never actually took the battery out and tested it to verify that this was the case, but I can tell you the moving it out of the sun helped a lot.

As far as mounting goes, I actually removed an a/c vent grill and screwed the mount to the inside of the duct. This might be more extreme than most are willing to do, but all you need to do is find an area on your dash that has space available, out of direct sunlight, yet still easily accessible to the driver and find a creative way to mount your car dock there. I would try to stay away from glue, since eventually you will want to sell this car one day. In my wife's car I actually cut off the threaded pirch on the back of the carmount and used 3M automotive trim double sided tape.

great

your saying about the false reading of temperature does make sense a lot.
thanks for a/c mounting tip too.
i'll try some solutions and see how it goes.
thanks!
