ok everyone seriously needs to shut up. like please.

i come on here everyday. multiple times to see anything new about 2.1 and what do i see? trolls. and annoying people. who ask questions about something COMPLETELY irrelevant.

please. close the thread. until 2.1 arrives. but. im sure another one will pop up!

Very very true. I come in here just to check on anything knew and Im sick of fishing through all the B.S

I think it's funny that people keep coming to this thread to see if there's any new updates as far as 2.1. If there are ever any updates I can assure you that you won't need to come to this thread to find out. Your phone will either get an update, or it will be on the homepage of this site and you will also get an email from the site. This is like a great movie that you keep on hearing about and when you finally get to watch it it doesn't live up to the hype because you built it up too much in your own head. This update isn't some life changing event, just a few extras, but it's still 2.x. It's like a bunch of kids waiting by the Christmas tree waiting for Santa. Santa only comes when you go to sleep!!! GO TO SLEEP CRAZIES!

As for a real question. Why is it that when there is a new update it has to be worked on before everyone else gets the update? Why is it that if it works on the nexus it wouldn't work on the droid? For instance if you have a Gateway computer and a Dell computer running Windows Vista you can immediately update both of them with Windows 7. I'm sure it's a stupid question, but I just don't understand.

that is a bad connection. a gateway computer and a dell computer have, essentially, the same "parts". they are "able", or built to, run windows and any version of it if the pc is in the range of the system requirements. The Nexus one is like the opposite. its like windows 7. and i have lets say Mac. but the thing is 2.1 is like the computer. yeah sure it can run with windows 7 but can it run with mac on it? can it? maybe. maybe not. and that question brings up the whole topic of how 2.1 is being "fixed" for the droid.

hope that helped! :D

The update will be rolled out staggered. x number this day. x number the next. and so on. so actually... without the forum in general i wouldnt know until i got it... and neither would you. but thanks to this great thread we will know ahead of time!!

Sarcastic ofcourse.

Honestly i'd be fine with an Android 2.0.2 release with only bug fixes then wait for a 2.1.1 release and skip over 2.1.0 but Motorola/Verizon already know what they are doing so all we can do is wait.

I think I understand what you're saying, but what's confusing to me is I don't understand what is all that different with the nexus one and the droid. They seem to be similar with a different chip? Again, I'm sure that shows my ignorance. I guess I just don't understand why if you are already on that os why updating to that same os requires fixes. I would understand if it was a mac updating to a windows os or the droid trying to update to windows mobile. For instance... what's the difference between the iPhone updating from x.1 to x.2 and the droid updating from x.1 and x.2. THANKS!

Let's not slam Trish

I'm giving Trish tons of credit for not taking my reply too hard. I was blunt but meant no flame for sure.

Sounds like she took my advise and reset the unit and its doing better.

I'm not using the task killer she talked about either but do have Astro and use it's "Process Manager" to pick through once and a while for GP and kill things. But just because I read on forums how it's a pretty common practice.

All this task killing has me doubtful it's needed and if it is I am disappointed. I have been using computers since the Commodore and can remember how "Windows95" was ridiculously notorious for needing to be restarted to release resources or it would lockup. Then Windows98 got a little better and Vista even better. I run machines with Vista that are Super Stable and hardly ever get restarted.
But I hand build them and hand pick the configurations and software too.

I got an OTA today!

I was having some problems with my phone so I decided to do a factory reset. This is the first time I've done this and it sure starts over from scratch... The phone is snappier now for sure.

It's the difference in a computer OS and a phone OS. Phone operating systems have more hardware and feature-specific programming than that of a computer OS. Since hardware within a computer is very interchangeable Windows has to be programmed to run on about anything. Your phone OS will be less generalized so that it requires less resources to run, etc. A lot of the code will be the same which is why you'll see ports from time to time but not so much that you can just take the exact version for a Nexus and expect it to run smoothly on a different phone.

I tried to explain that without going into too much detail, but I think that'll get you on the right thinking path.
