You know what, everyone? At the end of the day, it's a phone. That's all it is. A phone that can do cool things, sure, but it's still just a phone.

For those of you wetting your pants (or worse) waiting on some insignificant update to be released, just turn your phone off for a bit and go have a conversation with someone, face to face.

Talk to your wife, husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, father, mother, kids, pets, or $7,000 sex robot. Take care of those things around the house you've been putting off. Go out and see a movie.

It's a phone.

I have to disagree completely with you on this. Its not "just a phone". If all it could do was make phone calls no one would pay hundreds of dollars for it. I would call this a hand held multimedia communication device if I had to classify it. I will agree that people are a little too anxious for 2.1, but to call this just a phone is flat out false.

so when does 2.1 become available?

Not wanting to add to the fire, but I thought someone should clear up a few misconceptions I've seen throughout this thread. Fact vs myth style.

FACT - Neither google, verizon nor moto are in any way OBLIGATED to update our phones. The droid is a google experience device, which means it is more LIKELY, however not manditory. They are also not OBLIGATED to give us any information on release dates/ features.

FACT - moto has stated it will release 2.1 to the droid. They have wisely, however, not stated a release date. Anything contrary is pure speculation.

FACT - it will be verizons customer service that takes the brunt of the complaints if they release a half finished product. You can be damn sure verizon wants it perfect before they use their network to transport the update.

MYTH - any dates for a release. We are all hoping for Q1, but we have very little info, and can not hold these companies to dates they have not even confirmed.

MYTH - any information regarding what the 2.1 update will contain as far as fixes and features. We have a really good idea of what to expect, however none of this is FACT. It will become FACT when one of two things happen. 1. One of our three companies release official updates notes for the droid, or the update rolls out and we see it for ourselves. Anything else is speculation. Even modded 2.1 roms (which I happen to run) aren't indicative of what the actual 2.1 for droid will include.

I have faith that google/verizon/moto will get it right. Give them some time to make it perfect for us.

Not sure if anyone knows this, but I was just wondering . . . If Google Earth is on our phones, how will it be different from Google Maps? One of the main differences I see from my desktop version of Google Earth and the phone's Maps, is more layers (ie. different map types, 3d buildings). Is that really all it's gonna be - Maps with more layers? Will it actually have reliefed terrain? I know any answer will be just speculation at this point, but would like hear others opinions.

Nexus awaiting update

I bumped into a friend of mine on T-mobile. He just updated from the G-1 to the Nexus-1. It is a sweet little phone but I like my Droid's better external speaker and the keypad (I wasn't so impolite as to say this). He said that he missed the keypad but the speech recognition made this a little easier to take.

He also pointed out that when he bought the Nexus-1 he was told that there are some bugs (stalls of some sort) and that an OTA update was only a few weeks away. I guess that this update to a more bug free 2.1 may be what we Droids are waiting for. :motdroidhoriz:
