Wow.
HTC Touch HD upgrades to Android 2.1 with Sense UI (Phone Arena News)
HTC TOUCH HD UPDATES to Android to 2.1
Now that didn’t take too long and we wish that more handsets could be like the HTC Touch HD. Earlier in the month we saw the former Windows Mobile giant shed its Microsoft platform in favor of Android 2.0 thanks to the team over at xda developers. It’s even rarer to see something like this occur with most of the hardware intact and functional; such as the radios so you’ll be able to text and make calls. The latest thing to pop up on the venerable smartphone is Android 2.1 with the newest Sense UI – possibly a great combination in itself. It’s really surprising at how quickly these guys can pull off this feat when you consider the sluggish time owners of other Android handsets have to endure in getting their official updates. There are still some bugs to work out that prevents certain hardware from operating correctly – such as the Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, and the external speaker. If you’re not the patient type, just be prepared for an extremely slow boot up time. So if you own an HTC Touch HD and want to be held in the same class as the Nexus One, then give yourself a shot at this and download the files to experience the latest features Android has to offer.

^^ Best advice so far... thank you. I have tried that... found that the stupid un-needed task killer was to blame for some issues. Then kept troubleshooting and found that weatherbug was causing some issues with the actual phone part of the device.... or at least that is what I have found in my case.

The point here is not me whining about a ****ty product, it is simply stating the problems that I have had with 3 separate devices. (And this isn't the thread to go into all of those details once again, but if someone would like I can start a new thread)

I am stating that the general population is ok with mediocre. It's not a perfect OS and quite frankly I feel I paid and continue to pay too much for a product that does not do what it is supposed to do with minimum issues. If you don't see it that way, then that's fine, we don't agree.

I hear you. Keep digging. I just hope 2.1 don't ruin my experience. Years ago I used to run IE betas and every time they would come out of beta things were gone I liked. Heh!

There is no reason to go on a forum and say I am whining and should just accept this phone as is... if that was the case and google agreed, they wouldn't be fixing bugs. They would just be like "oh well, it works good enough." I guess I have the mentality that things can always get better and be better and that is what I am hoping for with 2.1. For bugs to be fixed and to have some improvement.

I am having some weird problems with my phone as well and I'm running Weatherbug. What problems were you experiencing with Weatherbug?

At this time you have 11 posts all complaining about how horrible the droid is. Maybe?

Troll (Internet) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion./QUOTE]

To see someone complaining about how their droid sucks and then seeing they have installed weatherbug and other 3rd party apps known to have issues just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside (because my initial thoughts that it's your fault are now confirmed).

Weatherbug has been a crappy app every since it came out years ago on PC.... when it first came out, it was full of trogans... then they straighened up their act... but I still don't trust them.

Use an app killer "not one with auto function" and see how many apps auto fire back up right after midnight when they think you are sleeping! :icon_ devil:

If you notice, when you install many apps, they warn they are going to have access to your underwear size, cm across your nasal canals, and how deep your tonsils are...... all kinda stuff they have no business needing!!!

There is alot of trivial info they try to collect to sell to third party vendors that track behaviour, habits, and preferences and trends.

Get a good app killer with an auto kill function so you don't have to keep babysitting these apps.

I have "the weather channel app" and it too likes to start on its own all the time when I haven't initiated it.

Any app that does not have an "off or close" button, I don't trust and even those I watch......

If your smart, you'll let the app work for you and won't work for the app.

Regardless of what these guru's say.... they do tied up cpu processes and although the memory threads are isolated, there still is only one processor and if they all want it all at once in high usage percentages... something has to lag or give.

Common sense tells you if 47 things are running at once along with services and while there may be memory to spare.... there is only "one" processor.

The thing I see about a lot of the complaints is that the complaint is blaming google. But, if someone returns several phones because of hardware problems, that's not google's fault. And if a crappy app is causing the problem, that also isn't google's fault. I'm not saying that the OS (which is googles) doesn't have room for improvement, but the blame for issues people are having should be placed were they belong. For some, maybe it is the places where the OS is lacking. For others though, and the majority of issues I see fall here, the blame is on a bad piece of hardware or crappy app. My first droid had a proximity sensor issue, swapped it and this one has been running awesomely. Any other issues I've had have been narrowed down to crappy coding in a 3rd party app I was running.

i agree. people are stupid. no one knows anything. i hate this blaming of google. and please. tell me what happened to 2.1!!!! i mean this thread! talk about MAJOR BS! stop! this went from 2.1 to explaining problems with apps and stuff. i thought this thread was about the RELEASE and information about 2.1. i understand that some people are looking for fixes to their problems in 2.1 from 2.0.1. but still. post a seperate thread. this has gotten so off topic. i have followed this thread since day one. and it has been difficult ignoring that annoying pointless posts and the actually worthwhile ones.

thanks!

Just caught up in this thread. Wow, just wow.

If I had just posted multiple rants explaining how bad Motorola/Droid/Google all were, described how I'd bought 3 phones from 3 different sources, and how even my super-smart Linux-savvy hubby couldn't fix the problem, only to discover that a stupid little weather app was causing the problem, well ...

I imagine I'd be mighty embarrassed right now. Probably contacting all those I'd verbally abused with my hat in my hand and a sheepish grin.

Personally, my Droid is the best phone I've ever owned. :):):)

That's why we all come here. You cannot be thin skinned or too rough and sugar coating responces or replies is @ the option of the author. But if you dish it, be ready to take it.
As far as admitting to embarrassing things, I have great respect for those who do. Heh - unless it's sexual in nature.

Rooting the official 2.1

I am interested in rooting my phone and taking advantage of all its capabilities, but i am also excited about the official 2.1 release, will we be able to root our phones the same way once we receive the official OTA update whenever it may be?
