hm.. that pdf might be legit. look at the date of the 2.1 screenshot. the alarm clock. it says 12/28/2009. thats 8 days before nexus one's release. well. now that i notice.. if it was fake it could just be the rom. which seems to be released a week prior to the 28th... hm. just a thought. and i could also use this to prove its fake. wouldnt they have a newer version running and take a picture of that? like a january date? but it seems fake. because of the crappy quality images including the verizon logo.

When will it happen.

So, I've only read about 200 of these thread posts, but I was wondering if anyone has been switched to the 2.1 software yet. If not, does anyone have any insight on when they will be pushing the 2.1?

Thanks

im pretty sure its the same .pdf that is posted above

I can't get the other PDF file to come up here @ work so I can't compare the two files .. The one here at work looks like this ,,,

Top says,, Motorola Droid with Verizonwirless over to the right

Left side top has "Software updates"

Left side bottom has Specs"

The rest of the page showes three pictures,, 1. Droid , 2. Droid in car mount , 3. Droid in Multimedia Station ..

Does this sound like the same PDF file ??

Here is a screen shot.

Yep , Thats the same brochure that was sent to us ! .. In the email it says ,, " Just a note to inform you Motorola will be pushing out a software update to the Droids , as early as this week "

Please don't shoot me if im wrong .. I'm only sharing info that was emailed to me ...If I receive any other news I will post it ...

I must say, if it IS coming soon, I hope that rumors surface quickly about the next update. With 2.1 out what will be talk about? Heck, what will the poor moderators do with all of their extra time? :)

As soon as 2.1 is out, I'm sure the mods will have enough threads to close regarding 2.2 that's supposed to be released sometime in early May :icon_eek:.

Is that regular May or G-May?

LOL! no. people will start talking about how 2.1 sucks. or not what they expected. then complain for a release date on a NEXT update. i guarantee this will happen. lol. so the mods will always be busy. :D

yep.... your right!......

1. If we root, how hard is it to unroot if we need to take it in for service
2. If I root today and the OTA comes out tomorrow, what will I have gained.... overclock ability.... anything else other than the satisfaction of knowing I did it?
3. Knowing what you know now, would you do it all over again or are there pitfalls to the unwary?

1. you download the stock 2.0.1 update and install it just as you did the rooted 2.0.1 update. and its impossible to find out you ever rooted it.
2. the ota will get rid of everything. it will be stock 2.1 (or 2.1.1)
3. rooting is easy. overclocking is easy. i would do it all over again in a heartbeat. believe me its all very easy. unless you seriously cant read english. lol

Use SholesMod Updater which will root and install all the 2.1 goodies on your phone. When the official 2.1 update rolls out, you use the same app to go back to 2.01 Stock (no root), intall the 2.1 OTA update and then wait for someone to root it to be able to overclock it. This would definitely be the most stable option.

It takes about 15 minutes to root and install the Sholes ROM, and about 10 minutes to return back to stock. I've personally done this a couple of times already and have had no issues.

Here's a step by step howto guide I put together:

Thanks for the info!...

So its not true that once you root it makes the OTA overlook you or do you have to head it off at the pass and download and reinstall 2.0.1 so when the 2.1 OTA comes along it will see your phone as "updatable"?

i believe the OTA will come unless its blocked. and i believe that that sholes rom DOES block it. so you would have to install it manually like 2.0.1.... im running 2.0.1 no sholes although i did donate 5 dollars... and im rooted with 800mhz but OTA is unblocked. if you install that sholes app and install the rom ota updates are blocked i believe.

so its up to you. i personally will download 2.1 or 2.1.1 whenever it comes. idc if its an ota or ifs manually as if it is a staggered release like 2.0.1..

hope i helped

OK...so is this the link you recommend? and I noticed on line # 13 it started talking about "sholes" do I want to continue there or is the whole thing Sholes?
13. At this point you will have 0.99.1b Recovery, you want to have 0.99.2b. So click this link to download 0.99.2b http://downloads.sholes.info/recovery-0.99.2b.img

I don't want to block the 2.1 OTA "I don't think" because I don't know how long it will be before 2.1 root will come out..... But I would like to keep the overclock abilities.. I'm assuming you would lose that once you allowed 2.1 OTA update to do its thing?... at least until the 2.1 root came out?

the ota ok stock 2.1 or 2.1.1 will remove all root and overclocking. until 2.1 root is out. which i dont see taking long but who knows. i do not have sholes. nor do i have information on it. so i cant really recommend anything. im using evilboot8. to overclock. not bugless beauty. i had bad experience with custom roms. such as lagginess. so i just did everything myself. and i am using a plain smoked glass theme which is nice. the only thing is clock in the notification bar is black. which makes it really really hard to see.
