Motorola Droid 2.1

Sorry if this is a repost and not too sure how reliable it is, some of the wording tells me it is rumor too "...is most likely..."

AndroidSPIN | You heard it here, first, on AndroidSPIN. Your No.1 source for Android news. Blog Archive Moto Droid 2.1 Update

In a nutshell:
The 64 meg update does not get installed and is just a patch/precursor to 2.1
2.1 build in it's final stages and released soon.

Take what you will from that...
Considering that was back on the 19th when people were still freaking out. I think that is just speculating. Just like everyone else was doing.

As far as the holdup goes, if we assume that 2.1 has been given to Verizon, then it almost has to be one of three things.
1) A last minute bug fix
2) Problems with the OTA push
3) Verizon is waiting until after the Apple announcement on Wednesday (to avoid stealing the spotlight from the announcement)

As far as that goes.. people tend to focus on the last flashy toy they saw.... releasing the update "after" apples announcement may have more power to steal the spotlight.....

Not sure why Verizon would avoid stealing the spotlight anyway as suggested?
Surely they are not worried about offending Apple at this point are they?

Some of the wilder rumors suggest a Verizon version of the iPhone is going to be announced on the 27th. But if they were trying to avoid stealing the spotlight with a 2.1 OTA then you'd think they'd push the OTA BEFORE the announcement, not after it.

maybe they're planning the apple and android release for the same day? would make for a good commercial, "hey, look what we can do" *ATT losses iphone contract* *biggest android device gets significant update*... more likely its gonna be a while for the droids, though. :-(

(or maybe verizons not getting anything from apple... and 2.1 is the big announcement for wednesday... just sayin, its possible)

The Nexus owners are saying it does NOT fix the infiniti/nissan Bluetooth issue - that is frustrating
I went to my local Verizon store one week after getting my Droid back in November because bluetooth wasn't working correctly in my 2007 Maxima. I was assured that this would be fixed probably in the December update (2.01) but, if not, surely by the January update.

Maybe the official OTA push from Verizon will fix this issue.:icon_eek:

I have a Toyota Prius 2010... after the 2.0.1 update I could sync my multimedia but still no contact sync.. I'm hoping 2.1 fixes that somehow....
With the 2.0 original, I could only sync my calls to the naviagaion console.

So at least the first update got half of the issue.

Since the projected dates were all off, I'm going to spread the rumor that Verizon has decided to make the 2.1 update on Valentines Day only if you plan on wining and dining your droid....

And you're basing that on...what? None of us have any idea when 2.1 is coming, so let's stop making assumptions that aren't based on anything.

I think you are correct. Rumor has it Apple is releasing the iTablet, iPhone 4.0 update that is supposed to have new syncing and multitasking(something all the jailbrakers have been waiting for), exclusive contract with ATT ending and maybe staring with Verizon, and possibly a new iPhone. Android is going to counter with 2.1 for the Droid. More home screens, live wallpaper, and maybe improve choppy performance issues from last update. That will sock it to those Apple fanboys!

Its just a speculation of a coincidence, how about instead of telling people to stop sharing their opinions in a forum... just find a different thread to read, and for you... 2.1 will be out when its out. or if thats too much speculation, what happens happens... or not

does anyone have the maintenance upgrade yet?

Motorola debunked the maintenance upgrade themselves.

The only solid proof we had that something was supposed to happen on the 22nd is the leaked document that listed the date for the 2.0.1 update. It listed January 22nd as a target date for a number of fixes to ActiveSync. The assumption was that this would be the date that 2.1 is released.

Realistically it could have been the date that 2.1 was to be delivered to Verizon (rumored to already have happened). It could have even been the date for a planned 2.0.2 update.

So it looks like the Nexus has a coverage problem on the T-Mobile network, and there is a fix going out to help with that. I wonder if our push is being held to include this patch for the Nexus guys, so we are all on the same code line.
