Went to bed last night, the droid was fine, never been dropped.

Put it on the charger, when I picked it up I noticed a crack on the left side starting about 1/3 of the way up and going all the way to the top about 1/4 of the way across the top.

Could this crack be heat related? Thanks for any advice

I also have 2 days left of the 30 day trial period, will they replace? Also, should I be worried about a design flaw? If they give me a new replacement will my 30 day trial begin again?

thats really weird. i doubt its heat related. maybe something fell on it when you were sleeping or it fell from where you had it? this just doesnt make sense to me

That's pretty strange. I am under the impression that during the 30 day period you will get a new replacement. But let us know how this is handled by Verizon.

I don't think it's a design flaw as there are millions of Droids/Milestones out there and they are not randomly cracking their screens. All the previous cracks I've read about were associated with a drop. As to heat, I would think you'd see some other physical manifestations if the glass got so hot in a localized area that it led to cracking. Good luck.

My first thought.

My second thought... my wife has threatened to hurl my Droid across the kitchen if I leave the sound on with notification beeping throughout the night again.

DUDE. My wife makes me turn off my sound at night. She sets her alarm on the weekends to wake me up for work so she doesn't have to hear mine.

She hates my beloved phone >.>

I am livid right now. I have taken extreme care of this phone and did not drop it. I went to the verizon store and they were no help, says its damaged. No sheet.

I got the deal to get a Droid and a free Eris for my wife. If I turn in the phones I have to pay full value for the Moto droid (How much is that?)

Otherwise I can file an insurance claim for $90 and probably get a refurb

(no I have no chldren)

Any ideas? Do they have screen replacements?

Oh and to make matters worse I just bought a case and holster for $40 online

I've never heard of a design flaw like that, as stated they have sold crazy amounts of phones, and at least on this website, this is the first i've heard of it spontaneously cracking overnight. The only thing i could even come close to thinking is that somehow it might have been damaged when it was shipped to either you or VZW, only problem is that if that did happen, you have no way of proving that. I would imagine that you will have to end up paying the insurance cost. :( That situation sucks.

i was waking out of the elevator for work this morning and mine slipped out of my hand and landed screen down on a metal plate..... should hae replacement by tomorrow

My wife also hates my phone, she said that if I could make love to it, I probably would.

:icon_eek:

I wonder if it would be better to get a replacement through the insurance (possibly inferior refurb?)

or to try and get the screen replaced somehow?

Any thoughts? Thanks!

After all, since it was not dropped everything should be in great working order....

I am not sure if this helps, since you have already shown them the phone:

How to Get It For any of these programs, Verizon Wireless customers can only enroll within 30 days of the following:
  • New account activation with new equipment.
  • Upgrade with new equipment purchase.
  • To enroll in any of these programs, customers should contact Verizon Wireless Customer Service at (800) 922-0204 or visit any Verizon Wireless retail store location; or to enroll in the Asurion Wireless Phone Protection program only, customers should call Asurion at (888) 881-2622.
Calling Features: Total Equipment Coverage

If it helps, you owe me an invite to Google Voice. ;)

I wouldn't try to replace the screen yourself, its almost impossible to not get dust under there that will annoy you every time you look at the phone. I think a refurb would be better than that honestly.

Do you carry your phone in your pocket or book bag, briefcase, something that may have pressed against your phone and cracked it and you just noticed the crack today?

I am now thinking this may have to be the answer

I did call a regular verizon store instead of the reseller and they said I had 2 options

1. Pay $50 and get another Droid with only 90 days warranty

2. Pay $90 and go through the insurance process and get a 1 year warranty

What would some of you guys recommend? Thanks
