Losing Newly Created Contacts

I have 2 batteries for my droid. When I change the batteries, I lose all new contacts that I've saved recently (even after a gmail sync). It doesn't affect my old contacts which is really odd. I can even add new info to those and it retains those changes. However, again, any time I make a new contact, that entire contact is simply gone. Anyone have any ideas, help?
