Launcher screen redraws

This may have been discussed before but I can't find the thread. I decided to go with a different launcher because the stock one is so jerky when you're flipping through the home screens. I tried Launcher Pro and it's smooth until I start going in and out of apps, then it has to redraw the icons and is jerky as hell through the pages. Now I am trying GO Launcher to see if that's any better, but I'm thinking this is a memory issue. Is there any way around this?

Launchers usually has a lock in memory option. Depends on your Rom, you might also have that feature built in to your Rom.

Go Launcher has something that says "Choose locked apps", is that it? It also has something that says "System persistent" but that's it's experimental.

Download "Terminal Emulator" from market.

Open it.

Type in SU - you will get a $ and it will go to the next line.

Type in: echo ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 >> /data/local.prop

Then type: reboot

After this, I use root explorer and go to: data/local.prop (mount system as r/w then open in text editor) and change the 1 to a 0.

That sounds like I need a rooted device, I haven't gotten around to rooting yet. Is that the case?

Yes, you must be rooted.

Not working... I guess maybe I'll have to bite the bullet and just root the thing.
