Keeping clock active when docked?

Has anyone found out if it's possible to keep the display active when the Droid is in the multimedia dock? I know I can set it to never switch off, but I want the display to go off when I remove it and stay on as a regular clock when docked.

I found it only does that if the plug is plugged into the computer. When I plug it into the wall, it keeps the display on. So if you aren't transferring files, plug it into the wall instead.

It didn't occur to me that it would make a difference where it got it's power!
