Is there a way to use the Universal Mailbox for GMail, and NOT the GMail App?

Although the Universal Mailbox lists a GMAIL app, when I configure it, it is not listed as an option in the Universal Mailbox. I actually would prefer having ALL my mail accounts in one place, rather than 95% in the Universal Mailbox and GMail off on its own as an app - anyone know how to set this up so the GMail app is not the only means to your GMail account?

Thanks!

P.S. Can someone point me to an explanation of what 'rooting' a droid phone means?

You would have to set up gmail with the email app using pop3 or imap.

Rooting allows access to files you normally can't.
