If you could only have/recommend 5 APPS ?

THE ESSENTIALS:

  • ShapeWriter (because my Swype beta expired...)

If you keep your Swype .apk on your pc, you should be able to just keep re-installing it. I had ShapeWriter for when my Swype ran out, too, but found it inferior. At least, for me -- I know there are people that like it better than Swype.

But to help you out, here are my .apk files:

http://wuyausu.com/downloads/SwypePurple.apk
http://wuyausu.com/downloads/SwypeBlackish.apk

You should be able to right-click and save them as.apk. If not, let me know. I'll zip them and upload the zip file.

For the record, these are color modified versions of the regular Swype. And no, I didn't make them. I actually found them listed here. I wish I could remember who posted them originally, so I could give proper credit.

1. Swift Key - I like it better than Swype
2. Dolphn Browser
3. ColorNote
4. Beautiful Widgets
5. Handcent

I've never heard of SwiftKey. I will have to check it out.

I currently have Swype and the paid version of SlideIT.

I have the free version of slideit but the paid version is pretty expensive. $8?

Swype
Astro File Manager
Any back up app (can also be done with Astro File Manager)
MixZing

And cuz I see some ppl added a few more:

SetCPU - a must for rooted users
Wireless Tether for Root Users - ditto
Google Maps
Keyring - no more carrying around 40 travel membership cards
Astro File Manager

If I would have answered this thread 2 months ago I would have included Advanced Task Killer, but after reading up on the Droid system and asking questions on this forum I deleted ATK and have since been running smooth and clean without lag. ATK turned me OCD. No more.

Depends on what you're looking for...

For rooted phones, I suggest:
1)Root Explorer (or Astro)
2)SetCPU
3)ROM Manager
4)Where's My Droid (and/or Mobile Defense!!!!) - track your phone by gps if stolen!
5)MetaMorph

For non-root:
1)Astro
2)Mobile Defense/Where's My Droid?
3)Ringdroid
4)Pandora
5)Droidlight LED Flashlight (uses dual LED for ample lighting!)

Some fun apps/misc apps for anyone:
1) gStrings
2) Google sky map
3) Key Ring
4) Missed Call (cool for LED customization on notifications)
5) Shapewriter

chompSMS - i love the different chat bubble/font/color choices.
Pandora Radio - Love to hook it up to my Aux jack in the car.
Shazam - hold it up to a speaker to tell you which song is playing.
Mabilo Ringtones - great ringtones app with the latest songs.
Air Horn - to randomly scare the crap out of people :)

Love this thread. Many great ideas thanks to everyone.

1. ScreenMode: bypasses the swipe function from awakening. Love this app.

2. PdaNet: quick and easy tethering FTW

3. Movies: shows movie times, theatres, and video releases.

4. Timer: love it for grilling.

5. Twitter: native twitter app. Giving it a whirl until I find something new.

Shazam - lover of music
Handcent - so much better than stock app
Homerun Battle 3D - the one game I can't do without
Open Table - best way to make reservations at decent restaurants
Beautiful Widgets - fun to skin and match with themes, wallpapers

1) Launcher Pro - Great, fast launcher that allows 5 rows of icons on your screen.
2) NPR - Amazing app for those who listen to NPR.
3) Bright Dock - Keeps the phone from sleeping dark only while in a dock. I love using this with the car mount.
4) Contact Owner - Puts your contact info on the lock screen so if someone ethical finds your phone they can contact you.
5) Mint - Personal finance tracking

*Beautiful widgets is a given at this point so I didn't add it to my list. First and only app I've ever paid for.
