If I was still within my 30 days...

Hookbill is right. The qwerty keyboard is what makes the D2 so great. Just having the option makes it worth it, especially if you have huge hands like mine.

I am very envious of the D2 keyboard, I can just imagine myself in a business meeting speed typing with terminator arms and hands, and one bionic eye

I don't know, there is a guy at work, that is the size of a small house, his fingers are huge and he has the Droid X, he says the virtual keyboard is just fine for him.
I know the X is a different size.

I am thinking of doing the same but I have been with a physical keyboard since HTC released one many years ago...

im still w/i my 30 days (barely) and really contemplating going back to my env touch or a cheap BB just because i can not stand not having my phone last me all day and somewhat into the night when i go out at night.

Love the droid, but i just truly use texting, calls, twitter facebook and random espn checks and barely internet browsing. i like the apps factor but i dont know if its worth it because i need a phone that stays alive!

I'm curious.
What's stopping you from charging it during the course of your day?

i'm a college student and dont exactly have the time to or accessibility to charge it while in between classes or doing other stuff.

i am so used to having my env touch just last all day and then all night that i never thought id have to charge my droid during the day.... i like the phone and wish i knew how to manage things better just so i could get my battery to last longer

If you have a laptop in class you can charge it then, if you have a vehicle you can charge it there.
A smartphone is a mini computer, your laptop won't last all day either, neither of mine last all day anyway.

You can lower the frequency that your email checks, turn down the screen brightness, turn off wifi, BT, and GPS if you aren't using them. I think widgets use more power too, if you're using a lot of them, ditch them.

If you have a case for it, make sure it doesn't have a magnet, magnets put the droid in car dock mode, it will still be powered on.
You can also customize the batter usage by having it turn off syncing during certain hours and turn off data after a specified time.

You're spoiled...the Env phones (my son's have Env2 and Env3 phones) have amazing batteries.

You should know that any smartphone is going to be much more limited in terms of battery life than a "feature phone." If you want all day/all night battery life, none of the smartphones are generally going to work...Some people do claim multi-day use, but they are exception. I get to 10pm w/about 30% to 50% left, but I likely am not hammering on my phone as much as you are.

You could try setting a custom battery profile to turn off data 24/7 after 15 minutes of inactivity, since I doubt getting emails immediately is a big issue for you (won't affect texts or calls).

If you go back to your dorm/apartment for even an hour before going out, you'd be surprised how quickly the phone will charge up even if plugged in for a short while.

You could also remove widgets from your home pages...they can suck up battery.

Good luck...tough choice.
