If I root will Google wallet lock and become useless?

I am on stock and downloaded Google wallet using the backdoor method. If I root my phone which causes the phone to wipe and reset will my nfc chip lock and Google wallet become useless? I read this a few places

There were a few roms in the early days the would not allow the use of Google wallet. It is still not available to vzw customers in the market but rooting will not lock the nfc chip. If you have the latest version of wallet it will work just fine.
