If I get a new phone...

I have the option of getting an incredible. Comes with extended battery, the slim kind, and 2 extra batteries.

I wouldn't be getting it through verizon however and the phone is already rooted.

Can I transfer my current phone's number to the incredible from home by calling them or something or do I need to go into the store?

Is there anyway to check the esn before purchasing the phone? It will be a used unit.

Is a rooted incredible that big of an upgrade from a rooted og droid? I plan on getting the bionic when/if it comes out but would like something a little better than my droid I've had for almost 2 years now. Getting this would't interfere with my current upgrade schedule would it?

Sorry for all the questions, but I need and appreciate all the help you guys have here!

Thank you!!!

You can do it over the phone. They can check the ESN as well. It won't change anything reguarding your upgrade timetable, and personally I don't think its a big enough "upgrade". If you're waiting for the Bionic it is supposed to be out at the end of the month. I'd just wait a few more weeks for a real upgrade.

All you would have to do is dial *228 when you get the incredible then enter your 10 digit number to activate it on your line. Make sure the Droid is turned off. If you are able to activate it the esn is good. If you are buying it and having it mailed to you, get the serial number for the phone and call Verizon and they should be able to tell you if its a good phone or not. Its not an upgrade IMO, more of a lateral move. If its cheap, and you want to play with something new for a while then do it, what the heck right. It won't affect your upgrade with Verizon when and if the bionic drops.

Bionic it is supposed to be out at the end of the month.

That soon really? I thought it was supposed to come out around Christmas time?

Thank you for the input guys!

I was also considering the incredible because of the faster processor. When the incredible is rooted can you still over clock?

I think the incredible can only be overclocked to like 1.2ghz or so. So its really not much faster than what you can get out of a Droid.
And yes the latest rumors put the Bionic coming out in late July.

hmmm. I may have to hold out then, or just give the incredible to my gf when the bionic comes out! lol

I'll be interested in seeing rooting evolution of the bionic.

Thanks again!

FWIW, there are certain apps that will work for the Incredible, but won't work on the Droid 1 (such as Plants vs. Zombies for one). And those apps will also not appear in the Market when searching using the Droid while they do appear on the Incredible.

You can also switch the phones yourself online through the My Verizon website. Just click on the link to "Activate Phone". As long as the phone has a clear ESN, you won't have any problems. I purchase two used Droid Incredibles for two of my kids and it went through fine. FWIW, in real world use, the slim extended batteries aren't really that much of an improvement over the stock battery.
