ICS Battery life

Did you do a factory data reset? I can't emphasize enough how that appears to fix most everyone's ICS problems. When I was rooted, I would never install a new rom without first doing a reset and clearing cache... numerous times... to make sure it was a fresh install. This is a new operating system. It is likely and should be expected that the new os will conflict with the old os, not always for a few lucky ones, but likely.

Why exactly would a factory reset fix the battery problems? Once you update to ICS and restore all your apps/settings wouldn't you just still have the same problem?

Without going into details, many people who had battery problems and did an fdr, it fixed their battery problems. Whether it is because having the old os data and settings conflicting with the new os data and settings or your battery meters are confused... whatever the reason, it has fixed most people's ICS problems.

Would you load windows 7 on top of vista or windows xp? Technically, you could but you should expect to have a lot of conflicts on your pc if you did.

Doing an fdr is not all that bad. A few hours of getting your phone set back up is worth the numerous hours trying to troubleshoot problems that would not be there if it were a fresh, clean install,

Hope this makes sense (cause sometimes I don't always), lol!

My battery life hasn't been great either, so I went to my settings and saw that it was on Global. So I unchecked that and put it on LTE. Is that the main culprit? None of my apps are taking alot of power, 90% of the consumption is from the screen brightness.

Update: after ten minutes of watching YouTube, my battery has only gone down from 86 to 85%. It only took 15-20 minutes before for it to go down from 100 to 86% because it was on global.

Thank you for your post. I did a FDR and followed steps according to this thread and got an increase in battery life but only a few hours. I checked my phone after reading your post and mine was on global as well. Hopefully changing this will help

Glad I could help! No need for any more factory resets. Now a couple hours after switching off Global my battery is now only down from 86 to 77%. Crazy how on Global I went from fully charged to 86% and I didn't even do anything besides update two apps over 4G >.>

Update: Well I did another fdr and also this time I did not reinstall manually any apps. (exc. Flash 11.1 to watch my golf on sportlemon.tv)....and Voila! My battery is back to the same life I had on GB. I was at 79% after using my MAXX for about 9 hours!!! And I was doing texting, calling for 65mins, emailing, 5 mins of browser use to watch tv. This is with no wifi, bluetooth on constantly, 4G on constantly (I'm in nyc). Happy again now. Funny how bad batt has you down once you are used to great batt life. Wondering if a third fdr would help even more??????????

One bad note...Webtop 3.0 still drains my battery ...2 hours of use and it drain the Maxx from 60% to 30%...damn....thought 3.0 would fix this but sadly no...damn! I don't even want to use my Lapdock 500 now. [And I had battery saver on "Lapdock Prioritized"]

I read an article recently that said when phone customers who are new to smartphones shop for a phone, they look for features/capabilities. When customers experienced with smartphones shop, they look for battery life.

Did the FDR and got better results from following the step in this threat and turned off global to lte. Battery life is n where near what peoples pics in this thread are experiencing. I use my phone heavy but I'm only getting a little over 12 hours of battery life. Think I'm going to so one more test of a drain and if it hasn't fixed since global has been turned off I'm going to perform another FDR again installing just a few essential apps and implement a battery train again. Hopefully I see better results.

Asking when my phone is on but on a black screen like in youtube I have black splotches and have had them since I got this phone. If I don't get results I want I might call for a replacement :( which I would rather not do... argh!

Meter/battery training did the trick for me!

I am at 24% after almost 19 hours. This is the best battery life I've had yet with ICS. I am draining to 10% to do my second meter training. Problem is, I probably use the phone too much to get more than 16-18 hours.

This is with some pretty heavy use all day today. I think after you do the training/conditioning you will be fine. This is my second training/conditioning session.
