HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

Ive been a bit bias due to the D1 being my first smartphone, and my first android powered device. However after much debate with myself on the subject Im actually very eager to hit the local VZW and check this phone out. I originally wanted to pick up a dual core so Id stay more up to date, but with the update on possible quad cores by Christmas, chances are Ill grab this to explore HTC and continue to enjoy the world of root dancedroid until the new quad cores show their faces, because frankly, as much as I love my D1, I desperately want a bigger screen as I primarily browse the internet and watch videos on my device and 3.7" screen just isnt cutting it anymore lol. Im not really sure what Ill do with my D1 as its a brand new warranty replacement.

save it forever, its a collectors item now. i wouldnt sell this OG Droid for anything.

so the 17th has passed now onto the 20/21 day.

I know that verizon generally releases phones on Thursdays, but a Monday release makes a lot of sense to me given the holiday. Additionally, the leaked BB ad for next week implies that it will already be available for sale when the ad comes out on Sunday. I asked the BB employee who is leaking these pics on android forums if these ads ever get changed at the last minute and he said he's never seen that happen.

The og droid was released on a Friday so the Thursday release schedule is not a set rule.

Announcement today... release tomorrow or Saturday? Why not? Every tech blog would write about it like crazy for the next 24 hours and the people planning to get it on launch day would certainly not miss the news.

I don't think all these "delays" were planned, but I think vzw may be just sitting back right now and enjoying all the free buzz this is creating. That's why they're not announcing it yet.

I agree 100%, I was a little torn between the Bionic and TBolt for a while, but seeing what the upcoming quad-cores should be capable of I have no problems going Thunderbolt at all. By the time I can upgrade again, the new phones should be able replace my aging desktop.

What I'm hoping for in 2013 is a dual boot phone running Android and the ARM version of Windows. Probably will require XDA Devs, but that cool. :)

Apologies if this has been asked and answered but am I correct that the TB uses the same type USB port as the Droid (micro?)? So the many of us upgrading from the OG Droid can use the same AC and car chargers? It seems Seidio's proposed TB accessories list the Droid, X, 2 under the TB charger compat list.

Each of my past phone upgrades have usually meant a new investment in chargers so this would be nice as extra chargers are a must in today's world.

i havent seen this question yet. but short of the iSuck, i havent seen a phone in a while that doesnt use microUSB. so you're safe for them. as for cardocks or multimedia home docks, youll have to drop the cash.

Guy I spoke with at VZW today said the 24th is set for both VZW stores and BB.

subsidized price as we all know is $350....he said there will be a $140 rebate for a 2 year contract and a $70 rebate for 1 year.

also he confirmed that the unlimited 4G pricing will be the same as the 3G pricing for the time being...but said that he would not be surprised if by the end of the year they went to tiered....and eliminated the unlimited all together.

he also hinted to get used to having the "big phone" release staggered like they have been from now on. Saying TB will be this month...DX2 should be next month...did not know what would be after that...but said Bionic would be May the earliest.

They sold a lot of Droids at $300 - a $100 rebate for a 2 year contract. Not much different between that and $350 - $140 for a 2 year contract.
Can't remember where i read it, but Verizon wasn't going to use Mail-in Rebates anymore. [soapbox]If they do sell the phone for 350, Verizon can have a giant pile of suck it. AT&T has there own version of the Thunderbolt/Evo for only 150 w/ 2year contract. it may only have 1/2 the Ram and only an 8GB SD card, but i'll just hold out and switch to AT&T or Sprint if Verizon keeps on handling their contract phones like this.[/soapbox]

:soapbox:

I'm just going by what someone was told at Verizon about the TB rebate. No mail-in rebates was just a short term thing that has ended according to what I read lately. As far as ranting and switching - please do. Less people on the Verizon network just means faster service for me.

I was under the impression that chargers have been mandated by law to all be the same now. I'm guessing the iPhone gets an exception because it is the syncing cable.

Upon further review, it appears that the universal charger laws I heard of are from EU. It has to do with extra chargers in landfills!

I don't really see the mobile phone companies making special phones for Europe only though with different chargers here.
So your Droid charger should work.
