HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

Sorry to toss out more random dates and confuse everyone more but the BB employee I spoke to said BB gets shipments from HTC on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. Thus, he said the 18th, 21st, 22nd, and 25th are the only possibilities/when I should call to find out if BB has the Thunderbolt. Weird.

We've established as a general rule that Best Buy employees have little to no idea what they are talking about when it comes to the release of this phone, too many contradictory rumors, speculation, and old news being passed off as new news to believe them. Maybe that is true for his BB though, who knows. Best Buy will get the devices from HTC when they get them, they are definitely in the process of shipping this week. Also, just because they get them on a certain day does not mean they will start selling them that day, or even the next day. They will start selling them when Verizon tells them they can (or rather, when Apple and it's lawyers tell Verizon that they can tell Best Buy that they can start selling, lol).

Either way, if they get them shipped in by this Friday, Monday, or Tuesday, that's still plenty of time to prepare for a release on Thursday next week, and we should hear of shipments arriving and preparations being made soon enough to relieve our concerns prior to release.

That's to get them to retail... I would assume they get shipped to Verizon "National" from HTC first and then Verizon ships them to the retail locations (BB and VZW corporate and VZW retail).

Wonder if they would be available to be ordered from the web on the VZW site and shipped to your home just as quick...

I just want to add that Verizon IS the best as I have went through all 4 major carriers and tried all the smartphones and I have been very happy with their service. In the almost 4 months with with android its been a wild ride and I'm loving it. Its not just the phone its the service.

I'm totally guessing on the Droid c3po, but if the "Droid" licensing stays, I don't see why they wouldn't market with the Lucas tie-in. Then again the R2D2 didn't quite sell like was expected.

Now, to all the people questioning me on saying "outside of 4g this is a step down from the DX". Tell me how I'm wrong?

The DX has the same clock speed, more battery life, a bigger screen, higher resolution, and an HDMI out.

The TB has 4g.

While "Droid" branding certainly helps marketing campaigns, if they learned their lesson from the R2D2 phone the c3po phone will probably flop like a pancake too, especially if they make it as ugly and unimpressive spec-wise as the R2D2 (an extra $50 for a graphic on the back?). I think they over-estimate the love of Star Wars out there (awesome franchise, well #4-6 anyway, but I don't want a phone that looks like a character from it).

By same clock speed, do you mean 1GHz? That tells us nothing. The second generation Snapdragon blows away the processor on the X. TB has a much higher quadrant score than the X.

Battery life? I'll give you that one, the X gets good battery life. TB owners will probably have to utilize many battery saving techniques, keep chargers handy at home, work, and car, and possibly buy the extended battery to be fully satisfied. It boggles the mind how HTC has not learned from the EVO and Incredible complaints and included a bigger battery. Even the 1600 stock would be a big improvement.

Bigger screen? Both are 4.3" inches...and I'd rather have the wider TB screen than the tall skinny one the X has. Better for typing and reading. Plus, while its a great phone, the X is super-fugly with its camera hump, hard buttons, and squared edges, imo.

Higher resolution? You are completely ignoring screen technology though (SLCD on TB, LCD on X). The TB will definitely look better. I bet you won't even be able to tell a difference with the naked eye between it and the Bionic with its qHD screen (unless you are looking 3" away from the screen).

HDMI out? Yes, it does not have it (don't know why they chose not to). But I will probably never use HDMI or DLNA. I'd rather have DLNA than HDMI anyway (no wires). If you want that function that badly on the TB, you can buy an adapter from HTC if your TV does not have DLNA capability. I know that costs extra $, but so will all the accessories you have to buy. It's just business ("Milk them for everything they're worth!").

I understand that the Atrix is the better phone for you because of your location. Why don't you talk about it in its thread, we all want the TB in here so stop trying to convince us it is not worth it. We understand it is not the "Jesus of smartphones," but it will be awesome for our purposes nonetheless and will be better than any phone on the market (including the Atrix imo, simply because of MotoBlur, lockdown, and AT&T's poor service in many places, notwithstanding that it has the dual core processor).

Keep it classy guys... unless you get personally offended your anger does not need to make it onto this thread. Also, can someone start permabanning the legit trolls?:icon_evil:

I mentioned this earlier. While I don't know this for a fact, it makes sense to me: Business are not in the practice of paying for shipping twice unnecessarily, that's a waste of money and poor business practice. What do they need to do to the phone at VZW "national" that could not be done at the HTC manufacturing facility first before shipment to retail outlets? I can't think of anything. If you can, please by all means enlighten us, I'd be curious to know what you think.

The network has a lot to do with how a phones performance as well as your location and what you plan to do with it. I tried 5 smartphones in the last 3 months on 3 carriers for different reasons. Best buy Rep told me my touch 4g was better than X he also told me fascinate was better than X. I W's very confused getting started. I am currently on the Droid X and it has outperformed them all because of the superior network that Verizon has so I hoped this has helped any new readers concedering the Thunderbolt as their first smartphone or upgrade if its on Verizon I am sure you will b very happy

I agree. There is nothing for Verizon to do with these phones. Besides, companies like Best Buy and Wirefly are purchasing the phones, not Verizon. Seeing as how there is a new in stock date at Best Buy (21st), id bet they are going straight there.

Looking closely at the screen shot, I'm thinking that the 22nd or 24th is easily an option. The in stock date is the 21st, the STREET DATE field is still blank...more than likely waiting on official word.
