HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

I've been reading this thread since day one and have done simply that, read it. I have an EnV Touch and have had it since launch day forever back when. I am due for my upgrade Thursday and have been going nuts since the New Year as to what I should use (waste) it on. I remember last Spring when I had decided to purchase a new Apple laptop. My IBook was seven years old and it was time. I bought a Mac Book Pro only to find out (because Apple apparently doesn't like to advertise product refreshment) that two weeks after my purchase for the same $$ I could have had more battery, harddrive and processor (not to mention a free ipod touch) Sure I was a bit salty as it was just outside the 14 day return window, but, the computer I purchased was still amazing and a significant upgrade over what I had. From reading these posts in this thread most of us have "outdated" equipment on the cell phone front. No matter what you choose to purchase, two weeks later something bigger, better and flashier will come out. That's the market economy, mobile devices and services is (are) the fastest growing market. We're so obsessed with having the 'new' and it sure is a shame. So consumed by the want and often times forgetting what you have. It would be super if we could all relax a little and enjoy this. The best part of Christmas when you were a little kid wasn't that morning, but 3-5am lying awake in bed listening for Santa and being excited to find out just what was on the way. Enjoy the anticipation, because the reality (not Samsung) will probably not live up to it :-/

Very true, personally though part of the anticipation is driven by speculating about it. Now that 2-14 is passed and we have a better idea of when it will be available it's much easier to step away and just enjoy the rest of the ride.

I never really thought it would launch on Valentine's Day. Unless Verizon was looking to lose their female demographic (sorry to stereotype but ya'll would be pissed if we ditched you to go buy a phone) Oh that and their track record suggests Thursdays as a more logical release. Personally I wont even be getting the T-Bolt, I planned to get the Incredible for free this week and then thief my girlfriends upgrade in the fall.

How am I wrong?
Usually if you have LESS features, it is a step down...

And don't say "phones on the horizon are always better" either. The Atrix is releasing what March 4th? That's not "on the horizon", for all we know it could come out BEFORE the TB.

"Usually if you have LESS features, it is a step down..." If that's your argument you would have to weight every single feature individually and see which phone scores better. Most people would not put the X and TBolt side by side and think the TBolt is a downgrade by any means.

The Atrix is interesting but if everything I'll read about it is true I don't really see how it's a lot better. The dock feature is kinda poorly implemented IMO (not to mention expensive). If the rumor that 512mb of the ram is only for the dock then it actually has less ram than the TBolt.

Right now dual-core means nothing but bragging rights. As multi-threaded games start coming out and Honeycomb start popping up on phones (how long till we see HC on the Atrix/Bionic? Bet it won't till till end of the year at best) that could change, but for right now it's not really gaining you much (if anything).

The higher resolution screen in the Atrix/Bionic is actually nice, but not nice enough to sway me away for an aluminum unibody HTC.

I've heard the new version of Blur is much improved, but I've used Sense for years and I like it.

You say the TBolt doesn't stack up, I say it does. You're welcome to your opinion, but I'm also welcome to mine. I hope whatever you upgrade to is all that and a bowl of grits, but I'm sure I'll be more than happy with the TBolt.

Well I can agree with that last part.
I have just had bad experiences with HTC, from the G1 to the Incredible, so maybe that gives me a bias against them. I'm happy with my iP4, and the TB offers me personally nothing that my D1/iP4 combo cannot do. Especially since I won't even have 4g here in Fayettenam until later this year. (Droid C3po or iPhone 5 LTE for me most likely)

They're making a c3po? That could be cool, at least a Star Wars geek...I'm not getting anything for a long time after the TB though.

I will also be a little bored after we know everything about it. This has been something for me to look forward to, and I haven't had that much to look forward to since football season ended!

Nice, I never really got into basketball. I'm an SF Giants fan though so I'm looking forward to baseball season for the first time in a while :icon_ banana:

Goodluck with that 1st overall pick haha

Ha, if Andrew Luck hadn't stayed in school, I know what we woulda used it on. Next year wont be much better, with a new head coach and all that....if there IS a season next year. I'll definitely be using the Thunderbolt (keeping the forum focused :)) to keep up with fantasy football.

actually, this phone is perfect for a bengals fan like myself :( ....because like the bungals, Verizon doesn't know what they're doing!!!

:rofl3:

That was a good one, although I'm sorry that must be very frustrating. I am so looking forward to having a smartphone so I can check up on all sorts of sports news at anytime :)

wireless and mobile news story... HTC ThunderBolt News: Shipping this Week - Coming Soon / How to Get One - WIRELESS AND MOBILE NEWS

Two key points in the story...

(1) Verizon doesn't like to announce their smartphone release dates too early. They like to keep their customers happy, and after the original HTC Droid Incredible sold-out in only a few days, they cut the time from when they announce smartphone availability and when the smartphones go on sale. Sometimes the time between when the phone's availability is announced and when it goes on sale can be a week or a few days. For example, Verizon announced today, February 15, that the HP Pre 2 will go on sale Thursday February 17.

(2) From our experience in dealing with Verizon's potentially bestseller smartphones, you should check into Verizon online the day before the sale date at 12 am PST (3:00 am EST) and on the day of sale to order online. Besides free shipping, you will be ensured that you get an HTC ThunderBolt and can avoid the crowds. We've also found that it is really important to refresh your browser to show any changes in the Verizon website.

Anyone know if the TB is as wide as the EVO? It looks about as wide as my droid x but not sure.

This might help.

WOW not this guy again LOL watch what he keeps doing with his hands

Watching it without sound is pretty funny. He does do some very odd things with his hands.

In case anyone is interested, the Seidio accessories are now available to purchase for the TB. They will be shipped starting on the 18th - seem to be the only quality accessories out right now.

Are the seidio screen protectors any good?
