HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

I'm actually nervous now.... since they removed the "Febrero" from the last slide of the Spanish commercial for Thunderbolt on youtube. It now says Coming Soon.... seems like a lot of work to re-edit the commercial to add a different graphic and have to re-render it. If they were confident it would be released by the end of February I dont think they would have gone to the trouble to change it....

I mentioned that as well, but someone noted that maybe since February is halfway over, no sense in running February when you could say Coming Soon.

Maybe they originally made both versions.

I don't think they would have changed the website as well if it wasn't so close to being launched

I actually think changing it is a good sign. It is February now obviously, so it would be both confusing and misleading for it to still say "Febrero," people might think it is already released since the month is halfway over and then be mad when they found out it wasn't yet. Changing it to "coming soon" narrows the window, imo, although technically it is more broad. But I can see how people might take this the wrong way. I certainly hope it was not just to cover their butt. I remain confident in the leaked date. If it wasn't soon, they would not have put that new fancy lightning bolt graphic on the VZW homepage (Search: "Thunderbolt") and spent a boatload to take over CNN's homepage yesterday.

I only remember seeing the Spanish version last week. But, I like GuitarChris' positive thinking about it.

Anyone know if the TB is as wide as the EVO? It looks about as wide as my droid x but not sure.

I agree with GuitarChris but someone pointed out last night that advertising like what was on CNN.com is probably planned months in advance, pointing to the possibility that 2/14 was at one point the planned release date. At this point it doesn't really matter but I thought that was an interesting point

Haha, thanks, I've tried to remain optimistic about this whole thing, while at the same time still being a realist and realizing the liquidity of the industry and that things are always subject to last minute changes for various reasons.

Yes the TB is as wide as the EVO. The Droid X is actually not as wide, but taller than the 2, which is why it has an 854x480 resolution as opposed to the 800x480 of the TB and EVO. I think I prefer the wider screen though.

I think its about the same size as the EVO, and the X is taller and narrower.

I read that comment too. He made a very good point, that is probably how things typically work. But I'm sure that is not always the case, especially in this industry. Ads can also take place on a more short term basis. You can't know what's going to happen down to a specific date, or even a week, that far ahead of time, because nothing is guaranteed when it comes to smartphones. So they probably make advertising arrangements much closer to the actual dates, but at least have them planned out internally well ahead of time.

Perhaps...Either way I'm sure it created buzz. As we all know most of what there is to know at this point though it doesn't mean that much.

How awesome would it be if they were doing all this to have a relatively quiet release on the 17th :welcome: It will almost undoubtedly be the 24th though.

I'm holding out hope for a Thursday announcement. If it doesnt happen then, I'll be bummed out.
That guy talking about advertising last night was interesting. HTC shelled out alot of money, and I think its obvious it was supposed to launch yesterday. Really wish we knew what kind of legal things are going on in the background. It's also still strange that HTC took down the Skype and hotspot info from the T-bolt page on their site two days ago, then they say the phone is shipping this week... I'm thinking maybe it was a hardware issue and HTC is to blame for holding up the shipping... just a bunch of speculation by a guy that troubleshoots software for a living :)

I don't think there's much doubt the launch was originally planned for the 14th - too much out there supporting that.

Now, the IPhone was announced Jan 10? And then it didn't launch for almost a month? My guess is the IPhone may have been a week or two late and that pushed back the TBolt launch.

Idk I feel like it has probably been tested like crazy and the whole maximizing :iphone: sales theory makes a lot of sense to me...just my 0.02 though.
