Can somebody that knows phone tech well answer a question I have bout the Thunderbolt? This might be dumb, but why do they have two model numbers listed on the HTC website for the chipset in the Thunderbolt? I know its single core - but all other single core phones only have one chipset model number.

This is what it says for thunderbolt:
Chipset: Qualcomm® MSM8655, 1GHz, Qualcomm MDM9600

I dont get it?

That price qoute of $615 is what a verizon rep told me over the phone when i told him i was goin to use my early upgrade for the iphone for my girl and that i was goin to buy the thunderbolt straight out but a couple days later they came with the rumored price of $750 so im not sure what to believe

Well...the new second generation snapdragon processor, along with a smaller die (reduced from 65nm on the Inc and EVO to 45nm on the TB), are supposed to help with battery life. However, I think Sense sucks a lot of juice in general, and the problem is that the battery in the TB is only 1400mAh, whereas they easily could have gone with a 1600mAh or larger (but chose not to to make the phone thinner, lighter, and cost less). That is why I'll be looking into the Seidio extended battery. Light users should be good though, while heavy users will not likely make it through a full day (as with most smartphones these days). Keep a charger handy at home, at the office, and in the car, and you will be fine.

The $750 price for Beat Buy could be legit. They always charge more for full retail. But $615 is what Verizon is charging and minimum for what a retailer could sell it for. Still, this is expensive. The Inspire 4G (Desire HD) is $399 off contract, which is insanely cheap. Yet this is over $200 more than that. I know the LTE radio is pricey, but seriously AT&T is way cheaper than Verizon. They rarely charge more than $499 for full retail devices. Verizon needs better retail pricing.

Is there an article that talks about the reduced die? Sorry, I'm new to all of this, just trying to learn. I'll probably be a heavy user at first... Another random question, I have a USB port on my car stereo (it can control Ipod) and I know that the charger for T'BOLT will have USB that can pull out of the A/C adapter, do you think it will mess anything up if I plug the phone into the USB port on the stereo to act as a charger?

$615 is not that high to me for this phone, at least on Verizon. Just look at the X ($570), Fascinate ($580), and D2G ($560). They need to charge that much to make a profit on the phone because you are not signing a contract. They really want you to sign in blood on the dotted line and get locked in for 2 years, that's where they make their real money. They actually lose money on a phone when you sign a 2-year contract because of the discounts.

I think the TB was listed at somewhere around $385 "cost" in the Best Buy system, so a mark-up to twice that does not really surprise me.

No, plugging into your USB in the car won't hurt anything.

Actually, the smaller die size equals faster speed, and less power consumption. They have been focused on shrinking die size since the invention of the Integrated circuit. 45 nm is the same as the latest Intel cpu's.

Wrong. The smaller the semiconductor the better. Trust me, I have a B.S.E.E. In computers, 65nm was 2006 tech, 45nm is 2008 tech (many currently sold computers have this), and 32nm is new/next level tech.

My rep wouldn't go that far, but she told me to "keep checking the website" and another person was told to check back "tomorrow" and "after midnight"
