HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

No one is going to find out anything until at least after the iPhone release. I think the entire community (including all other websites) has a general consensus that we won't see any announcement before the 10th.

It's not a consensus, it's a fact of life.

They should go for the 14th, I'm pretty sure the phones are all sitting in a warehouse doing nothing, not bringing people like us the magical goodness of 4G LTE at affordable prices.... damn you Apple, if it weren't for Apple, heck this phone may have even been out already.

Miami, are you saying the phone will come out the 14th or the 24th?...

And if the preorder, the PREORDER goes on until the 23rd, then the phone won't come out until the 24th. haha we're just going back and forth between the 14th and 24th... good times.

Well

It seems like there may be some behind the scenes manuvering again for the 14th...

If I may ask, what exactly is going on? Who in Verizon is on the fence with this release date? Are the executives arguing over it, is Apple being Apple?

They know android is their bread and butter. So probably to keep android as their bread and butter they are releasing the iphone4 then will announce the next gen droids soon after.
Personally I hope it is soon because i am dieing to upgrade my original droid.

Well I hope they do it really soon.

LOL, do you people really believe Apple and VZW are worried about thousands and thousands of people returning their IPhone? Do you think that happens with ANY phone unless it's defective? On top of that, the TB is only available in 38 cities.

And the whole 14-day return policy is a crock, too. If you had any reservations, you just wait a few more days and then you're inside the return window. Personally, I'll be waiting until the Bionic has been out a few weeks to see the reviews vs. the Thunderbolt and to see if it gets rooted.

that means the thunderbolt won't be available nationally, just in select cities?
When is the next droid that is going to be available nationally? I might have to buy a droid pro.

Why are you saying the TB is only available in 38 cities? Can you post a link or some evidence for that rather bold claim? Are you making that assumption because LTE was only available in those 38 cities at launch? I have seen no evidence that states the TB will not be available in non-LTE cities at launch. In fact, there was a pre-order advertisement on Sunday at my Best Buy, and we don't have LTE quite yet in my city, so I'm inclined to think you are wrong there. If they have that limited of a release for such a highly rumored and anticipated phone, they won't make very many sales at all.

While a huge number of iPhone customers are blindly loyal and don't care about Android, Verizon is worried that a significant number of people will be upset and return their iPhone once they find out that the TB has 4G/LTE, simultaneous data and voice over 3G, free mobile hotspot, integrated Skype, and is just a better, more powerful, more customizable phone. This does not apply to the clueless, who will be happy with the fruit, but rather to the well-informed customer. And yes, you are right, smart people could wait 3 days before buying the iPhone, putting them outside the 14 day return window, but what if they sell out in the first 2 days? People who really want the iPhone aren't going to take that chance and have either pre-ordered, or will get it on release day.

Well, it's backward compatible so there's no reason it shouldn't be available nationwide, but LTE right now is only available in like 38 cities. Really, why would you want the Thunderbolt if not for LTE?

On the other hand, in that case why are they releasing 3G only devices? D3, DX2 and DInc2 are all rumored to be 3G devices.

Because maybe a person's city will be getting LTE soon, or a few months down the road, but does not have it quite yet, and they want to plan ahead. I want the phone (over all other phones that will be available) for a dozen other reasons besides LTE, especially since I won't be able to use that capability at first.

They are releasing 3G only devices because they will be cheaper, and they probably plan on jacking up 4G/LTE prices sometime down the road. While it is rumored to be the same $30 unlimited 3G/4G at launch, it is also rumored that they will raise the prices at some point in the future after LTE gets more widespread, possibly instituting a monthly surcharge, or tiered data pricing, caps, etc. It is all still very unclear at the moment.

What I like is how your willing to state it will be availabe in 38 cities only like its fact when you don't have a link

If they REALLY want the IPhone, the chance they'll return it are probably slim to none. Not like they're going to have major reason to be unhappy.

If you want to talk about returns, how about people forking out an extra $50 for old tech (TB) only to find out they don't have LTE in their area? Not to mention, free mobile hotspot (if that rumor is even true) and simultaneous voice/data could also be only in LTE areas.

Old tech? Certainly your not referring to the new and improved 8mp, new htc sense, new nex gen snap dragon processor, or the new skype-baked-into-sense feature, or the fact that for once a phone will be getting 8gb of internal and 32gb of sd, yeah, ur right, that's all OLD cause you know, every phone has 32gb pre installed off the bat, every phone has the new nex gen spadragon, or the skype integration, your right, its all OLD

My mistake, LTE is only available in 38 cities (and like 50 more launching soon). It looks like it's available everywhere. Should be interesting how this plays out given how heavily the sales sheet promotes LTE. I think a lot of buyers are going to be unpleasantly surprised.

I'm pretty sure no one would purchase a phone just because of 4g and not even see if its in their area, heck half of any phone commercial displays a map of their coverage
