HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

Just wondering, if I preorder from BestBuy, and I make my purchase there, will I have to change my current plan? I have a data plan already included, and I like the minutes my plan offers currently because it is no longer offered.

Nope, not if you currently have a 3G smartphone. 4G should be free for a time, what else would they charge for?

Call me naive but Miami... how should I put this.... does anyone know if this guy isn't really a fifteen-year-old pulling our legs? If he works for Verizon how does he know things other Verizon employees don't? And the way he says things, just in this thread. Honestly, why the hell would they delay the release, and don't say iPhone, BestBuy policy doesn't implement a 14 day return window- besides, BestBuy IS releasing it Monday, maybe not Verizon stores, on account of that 14-day return window, but so what, BestBuy is perfectly fine for me, it's not like the People at my Verizon store give me cookies.

Anyway, guys, just wait 'till Monday, in the meantime, find something productive to do as opposed to stressing over a phone's release date- it's an awesome phone, and I'm pretty anxious, but my life isn't REVOLVING around the ThunderBolt...

I can assure you Miami is not some 15 yr old pulling our legs.

He doesn't have to share ANY information with us... yet he still does.

Just because it doesn't always pan out does not make everything he's said worthless.

Give the guy a break, he's just trying to help us all :D

If it was just Miami saying this it would be one thing. Blackmanx is a high level employee/exec with Verizon, and he is saying delay also. The only people saying the 14th at this time are the bb employees, and they are usually clueless.

I would assume big v will wait 14 days from when the iPhone sells out (which I imagine would be fairly quickly)

Just a few things to consider/clarify:
The bionic is being released with 2.2, aka no dual core support. Moto doesn't have a great track record for releasing updates in a timely manner so it will likely stay this way for a while. Additionally, moto has had numerous hardware issues with their phones so expect there to be some issues with the tegra implementation on the bionic.

That being said, it will preform better in gaming as well as 1080p playback then the thunderbolt, additionally it has a higher resolution screen, so if that matters to you, then its worth waiting for. The moto blur experience however, as well as the ram limitations will make the general usability less desirable then the thunderbolt. It isnt a smooth phone in the demo videos, optimized or not, a processor of that capability with ddr2 ram should not have issues moving between home screens or menus. As far as I'm concerned, if this is to be considered a top tier device, stuttery or laggy performance isn't acceptable.

The thunderbolt is in my opinion a more attractive phone, has very good hardware and strong software running on it. The processor overclocks extremely well (3k in quadrant), the new sense is feature packed and htc will be quick to keep the latest android on their flagship phones. Add in the simultaneous voice/data, improved rear camera, 1.3mp front, surround sound speaker and the ability to quickly and permanently root it, its not a difficult call to see why so many people are excited about the release and not impressed by motos offerings.

Just my little rant on things, take it for what its worth.

2 things to clarify. Bionic has DDR2 RAM, while TB does not, even though it has more RAM. That means Bionic will read/write twice as fast. It is unclear whether more RAM or faster RAM will be better. Anyone care to chime in on that who knows? Additionally, the videos we have seen of the Bionic so far (eg. from CES and after) were of unfinished devices. It was not the hardware causing the devices to be laggy, it was the software. Hopefully, Moto is in the process of fixing that. The key to the Bionic's success will be whether they get the software right to properly implement the Tegra 2, because hardware-wise it will be a beast. That being said, I'm still with you on the TB.

That's why I said call me naive lol

But I don't know this guy, I didn't know he existed until like a month ago and since I see nowhere writing that tells me who he is, well, who is he anyway? A Verizon exec, or a store manager, what?

Ok, I just don't get this... how can a huge nationwide company begin pre-orders on a device without having some idea of when it will be here... not only that, how can people from all over the country in this forum be told the 14th if it isn't true? Also, why would Verizon tweet that it is, 'coming sooner than expected' if there was even a CHANCE that it could be pushed back?? I just think they knew the competition with the iphone and would have taken this into consideration well before allowing BB to begin preorders or even have dates to share when we pre-ordered... not only that but at the bottom of the thunderbolt on the official HTC site it has a BB logo.... I initially found it hard to believe that BB could sell this before Verizon but it all just seems to make sense... so someone tell me... is this phone coming to BB on the 14th or not????

512 of DDR2 is about as good as 768 DDR it depends on the OS/UI. Sense 2.0 uses a lot of resources, my Droid incredible is having a little trouble running it smoothly. So for Sense 2.0 I would say more RAM is better. For blur, faster RAM is in fact better, it tends to lag, so faster RAM would definitely help.

I gotta make this my signature, yes Monday the 14th. But I wouldn't expect Verizon retail to have em, just bestbuy.

Have you heard the news ? ATT will launch Atrix 4G before 6 March , sometime around the iPhone or Thunderbolt launch on VZ .
I don't know about you , but for me VZ is starting to look bad as a carrier . They get a second generation Snapdragon phone months after other carriers , even T-Mobile got better phones for the last 3 years , months before VZ . Now they are launching a 9 months old iPhone and an old technology phone , and ATT is launching a dual-core , T-Mobile has a dual-core Snapdragon at his door and the Tegra 2 Optimus 2X while VZ is waiting for the summer to launch a striped down version of Atrix , and the Atrix possibly half year later .

Feel free to change carriers and drop calls. Have fun on a crappier network. Verizon has always lagged behind on device technology. Not sure why, they just do. I'll stick with better service, although I agree I get a little jealous of people on other carriers who get better phones sooner. Also, just how is the Bionic a stripped-down version of the Atrix? The ONLY advantage that the Atrix has over the Bionic is the 1GB of DDR2 RAM vs. the 512MB on the Bionic. The Bionic has equal or better specs in every other area. the Rumor has it that the extra RAM on the Atrix will be dedicated to the ridiculously overpriced and practically worthless (in my honest opinion) docking feature.

Fact is the Bolt is delayed again .... a direct qute frommy time with VZW tonight " We will not release a phone knowing the IPhone could be returned. Afterall we get charged back 4750 for each device. Since we can't sell it certified or resell it as new. Apple is calling these shots"

So this is the second or third time I have had this conversation about the bolt........ Even bestbuy tonight shows a pre order but no release date ( I was there tonight too ) ..... so delayed now the when is not know but if I plyes the odds.... late february before the Atrix gets out on the market

Thanks for the info Miami. Now I can be patient until the end of the month instead of furiously anticipating a 2/14 release date. I will hold onto 2/24 at the earliest, and hope that it doesn't get pushed into March. Someone made a good point that they shouldn't delay it too long past the 14-day window though (they have to start selling eventually, regardless of iPhone). My question is will Best Buy and Verizon get the phone on the same day? It is totally unclear right now. I think it would be odd for BB to get it first, but there are a lot or rumors swirling that it will be. Could they possibly be true since you can't get the VZW iPhone at BB (hence, no return conflict)? And if so, what is the difference between buying at BB vs. VZW?

is it going to be released next week if not what should i get?

Feb 14th is the leaked release date. Best wait in line because it is going to sell out.

From what I've heard so far, pre-orders for this phone at BB have been quite minimal because not a lot of the general public know about it yet (while the VZW iPhone has been advertised to death so far). Initial demand is not going to be as high as the popularity of the phone in the blogs and forums make it out to be, particularly because of the limited current availability of LTE service.

If it does not come out on 2/14, people should keep waiting instead of pulling the trigger on something else. You will be totally disappointed if you decide to go with an X, Fascinate, Incredible, etc. (I think all have an "end-of-life" at the end of March).

So what is all of this talk about a delay then? I pre-ordered and was told the 14th and then I call to confirm and they say no hard date... I am looking forward to this as a v-day present from my hubby! I want to be excited but I don't want to get my hopes up either.

It's not for me to disclose his personal identity... :icon_ lala:

Things change day to day very often, it's not out of the ordinary. We went thru a similar debacle with an HTC device in the latter part of last year. It was coming, it wasn't, it was coming, it didn't... it got scrapped... yadda yadda.

It's just the nature of the beast.

I meant who is within Verizon, ya know rep, exec etc. But if that's what you meant too, alright.... So wait you know him?

Per internal Best Buy documents, the leaked release date was 2/14 "SUBJECT TO CHANGE." It was NEVER a HARD release date. Per another leaked internal document we have seen recently, it says something like "the 2/14 date has been delayed." Some say its for the mobile hotspot feature or Skype (because they didn't want to release the phone without its full advertised functionality), others say it is because of iPhone and fear of returns for a more capable phone within 14 days of release. I guess either or both could be true. Regardless, delay is likely, I would not hold onto the 2/14 date with too much hope.
