HTC Thunderbolt Release Date

Not open for further replies.
I just got off the phone with the president of HTC. I speak Chinese. He said they're canceling the Thunderbolt and replacing it with an Intel Core I7 phone with NVIDIA graphics, a five inch 3-D LED screen, mobile hotspot for 300 devices, pre-rooted bootloader, 5G XLTE, six cameras, a 1TB micro SD card, and is releasing as a Best Buy exclusive for $20 on friday. Just thought you should all know. dancedroiddancedroiddancedroid

Did he metion the part about the thing is going to be like 24 inches thick to fit it all in...lol

Just a few things to consider/clarify:
The bionic is being released with 2.2, aka no dual core support. Moto doesn't have a great track record for releasing updates in a timely manner so it will likely stay this way for a while. Additionally, moto has had numerous hardware issues with their phones so expect there to be some issues with the tegra implementation on the bionic.

That being said, it will preform better in gaming as well as 1080p playback then the thunderbolt, additionally it has a higher resolution screen, so if that matters to you, then its worth waiting for. The moto blur experience however, as well as the ram limitations will make the general usability less desirable then the thunderbolt. It isnt a smooth phone in the demo videos, optimized or not, a processor of that capability with ddr2 ram should not have issues moving between home screens or menus. As far as I'm concerned, if this is to be considered a top tier device, stuttery or laggy performance isn't acceptable.

The thunderbolt is in my opinion a more attractive phone, has very good hardware and strong software running on it. The processor overclocks extremely well (3k in quadrant), the new sense is feature packed and htc will be quick to keep the latest android on their flagship phones. Add in the simultaneous voice/data, improved rear camera, 1.3mp front, surround sound speaker and the ability to quickly and permanently root it, its not a difficult call to see why so many people are excited about the release and not impressed by motos offerings.

Just my little rant on things, take it for what its worth.

I posted this same hypothesis on the thread "Thunderbolt delayed" located here:http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-news/123525-thunderbolt-delayed-7.html#post1271958

you know what I think?

I think BB will have it on the 14th. I think VZW isnt going to get it then because of this reason:

When I preordered the iPhone(mistake) online it only gave me an option for a 2 year agreement. I got to work that morning and promptly cancelled my order because there was absolutely no way to get a 1 year contract.

With that said, VZW is soaking up its new-comer and uninformed consumer with a 2 year phone agreement in which they will not be able to upgrade their contract after 14 days of sale or 13 months of contract anymore...due to the changes in their return policy and their change to their NE2 stuff.

So in short, VZW played a "check" on us consumers. They made it so the iPhone hungry, trendy folks can pad verizons wallet and buy as much as ever. Remember that within the first 2 hours of Pre-Sale, the iPhone sold more units than any phone ever in VZW's history.

Also I think its important to note that what VZW is also doing is saying the first 4G device is the Thunderbolt...but they dont want the "non covered LTE" consumer to purchase because they dont have a way to universally charge those customers at the launch of a national LTE phone. Its not like they can make me pay for a service and not be able to utilize it. So what is being said...under the covers is that if you get a 3g/4g device and are on a 29.99 unlimited contract for said phone, you are grandfathered.

where will VZW make their money? iPhone boners...this is why...

In a few months...the iPhone 5 will be LTE released and the masses will then want that phone...people will jump on it paying full retail and whatever contract (tiered data plans or whatever) they need to in order to fulfill their trendy hunger...the iPhone customers are VZW's cash cow just like those customers were for ATT.

We as an informed public have a chance to play a "check" on VZW...if we snatch up these TB's and are on a UNLIMITED 3G/4G data plan and only paying 29.99 a month....we are grandfathered...for unlimited LTE data...forever...unless we change our contracts...we will be the better off consumer because of this...for those of us who do the research and ask the questions over and over will be happier when those birds are paying crazy tiered data packages and we are getting that service on the cheap...we however will not.

I remember when I was on the SERO plan for Sprint...I was getting everything and more for literally $30 per phone that a top dollar ($90) phone plan consisted of...

Trust me when I say..VZW probably doesnt want us to jump on that bandwagon...and they probably want us to wait for the Bionic or a dual processor phone...

I for one have no prob getting this stellar phone with a locked in 2 year agreement with unlimited 3g/4g data...plus with BB's buy back program offered free you essentially can get a phone within 6 months for like $350 cash without doing anything to your contract...I almost paid $360 for an iPhone 4 on a 2 year contract...what a bone head move that could have been.

Your theory is plausible, but iPhone 5 will not have LTE. Its not fully rolled out yet, its too new for Apple to get the power mgt under control and AT&T hasn't got any out the door. The iPhone 5 on Verizon has a GSM Chipset in there already, what would be nice is a Global iPhone 5 but Apple is rotten to the core so don't expect that.

You don't have any right to say that iphone 5 will/won't have lte. Unless ur steve jobs.

You don't have the right to tell me I don't have the right when clearly I do. My comments are of course based on countless talking heads (analysts) but also based on historical data from Apple products. iPhone 1 launched with Edge, iPhone 2 3G, iPhone 3 3G (again), iPhone 4 (3G yet again), iPhone 5 (still going on 3G, maybe a quasi bullshiz 4G that AT&T calls 4G when its 3.5G).

You aren't the boss of apple. Don't tell them how to live their lives. ;-)

Have you heard the news ? ATT will launch Atrix 4G before 6 March , sometime around the iPhone or Thunderbolt launch on VZ .
I don't know about you , but for me VZ is starting to look bad as a carrier . They get a second generation Snapdragon phone months after other carriers , even T-Mobile got better phones for the last 3 years , months before VZ . Now they are launching a 9 months old iPhone and an old technology phone , and ATT is launching a dual-core , T-Mobile has a dual-core Snapdragon at his door and the Tegra 2 Optimus 2X while VZ is waiting for the summer to launch a striped down version of Atrix , and the Atrix possibly half year later .

Raptor...you could very well be right...perhaps she wont have LTE capabilities. But the last I heard it was going to have LTE with a NFC and dual core...where I got this info was from a apple fanatic who eats this stuff like sunflower seeds and then dumps out busted seed shells and sharp wisdom...So I could be very wrong, in fact I have read nothing about the new ipad or the new iphone so your word may very well be more concrete than mine.

But it could have all of those things. And I think that you have rights to say it...and Im sure the other guy was just busting your chops alittle. I think hes making more of a stab at apple than he is you...saying "What Steve Jobs says...goes"...just my take on it...

Aside from the fact that Job's right-hand man said no LTE for IP5...

The IP5 will NOT be LTE but those who have to have the latest will pay retail, anyway. Then the IP6 comes out next year and WILL be LTE, and those who have to have it, still under contract, will pay retail again. Why? Because I'm a greedy bastard, too, and that's what I'd do.

ahhh not so right here.... VZW has said it will have to be lte capable for them....internally and it will meet that demand..

Fact is the Bolt is delayed again .... a direct qute frommy time with VZW tonight " We will not release a phone knowing the IPhone could be returned. Afterall we get charged back 4750 for each device. Since we can't sell it certified or resell it as new. Apple is calling these shots"

So this is the second or third time I have had this conversation about the bolt........ Even bestbuy tonight shows a pre order but no release date ( I was there tonight too ) ..... so delayed now the when is not know but if I plyes the odds.... late february before the Atrix gets out on the market

Booo! Don't they know iPhone users don't want the thunderbolt even with its bigger gb's?

I know what Verizon has said about the iPhone return time period and the TB release but I honestly think it is slightly deeper than that. I believe Verizon is starting to get quite good at simply saying "nothing is their fault, it is always someone else". To put it simply. To me, they have been ramping up this way for awhile. It's great to never have to take responsibility for anything by always pushing it off on someone else.
