How to rip .apk files without Root Explorer? (not for piracy)

My Twitter updated itself and I can't find a themed widget for the new version so I am tinkering around with .apk's trying to theme them myself. Only problem, I don't have the twitter apk on my PC. Can someone explain to me how to rip .apk's? I know you can do it easily with root explorer but I don't own root explorer. I'm pretty sure there's a way to do it through a terminal emulator, but I may be wrong.

Alright I think I figured it out.. downloaded estrong file explorer, went to app manager and long pressed on apps, there is an option to back them up. It copies a the .apk to a folder called backups/apps. Woot!
