how to break ping command in terminal??

I was troubleshooting a network problem yesterday and could ping but couldn't cancel the request. On linux it is control+c to cancel. How can I execute that command with the keyboard? I have tried using the alt and up arrow with a line over it, but nothing works.

It will vary with which terminal you are using. I checked using Terminal Emulator and the sequence is dpad+c. I have a droid 1 so YMMV on different android devices.
