Help!! I have no idea how to root

Good Day, I'm new to the whole rooting world of android and I only have experience with unlocking iphones. I need some play by play instructions to rooting my cell phone and my specs are listed below:

Computer: Macbook
Phone: Droid 4
Android: 4.0.4
Sys Version: 6.16.217 XT894

I did find this think listed below, but I have no idea if this is a root or tools upgrade.

Not sure if he still needs help but i would appreciate a point in the right direction. I've rooted before but never on a mac. Im trying to root a friend of mines droid 4 with a mac as well.
