Having trouble with rooting

When I get to the step in the newbie guide to rooting where I use the adb push command I get something like this:

C:\rootfiles>adb push rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthe
cage-arm5.bin

84 KB/s (0 bytes in 5392.000s)

It seems that no files are being transferred. Anybody know why this would be?

Just use the walk through guide on jpw tp root ur fascinate at androidcentral.com or google z4root apk on ur phone download and run. Both very simple methods

im new to Android so how will i know if the z4root was successful?

I just noticed that the z4root was for version 2.2 while my phone is firmware version 2.1
