Hard Reset, Help!

Im trying to hard reset my razr and once i get to the fastboot screen it does nothing when i hold volume down. Its my understanding that an android screen should appear to continue with the reset. Help! Sorry if there is already a thread for this. I did a search but couldnt find one.

Hold the power and volume down buttons at the same time....for about 10 to 20 seconds....wait for the screen to go black and let go of the buttons...
