The phones that sparked a revolution, started a community, inspired forums and communities all over from DroidForums, All-Droid, Droid-Life, Android Police, Android Central, Phandroid, Droiddog, XDA, and more. The Motorola Droid has turned 6 years old yesterday, a few days later this forum was started. Amazing when we look at the android phones we have now to think that at one time the device that ruled the community had a 5 MP camera, 3.7 inch screen, TI OMAP 3430 processor under clocked at 550 MHz (the community fixed that under clocking), 256 MB of memory, 512 MB of internal storage and 16 GB of external, 1400 mAh removable battery, a physical QWERTY keyboard, and weighed 6 ounces. What an awesome phone this device was and am glad to have owned such device.

When did you buy your droid?

What device did you come from before switching to the Droid?

What was your favorite feature of the Droid?

Did you go stock or root it?

What was your favorite apps then?

What was the one think you disliked about your Droid or wish it had (ie pinch to zoom)?

No doubt in my mind, THIS is forum you go to first when you have an Android. I'm fiercely proud of the fact that my first smart phone was the OG Droid, and that I became an Android owner as this site launched. It's a great community and a super resource!

A few answers:

Bought it about a month after launch.

Previous phone was a Nokia flip. :p

Favorite feature? For sure Google Maps and navigation. What magic and WHAT??? IT'S FREE????

Rooted that baby while on Froyo.

Favorite app? That's a tough one. Maybe Dolphin browser?

Biggest gripe was GPS took a while to lock and was unreliable. Camera was also slow as molasses. Soon as I got my 4th gen phone (HTC One M7) I realized that you could actually make hardware that would keep up with Android features. Up till then the software was always ahead of the hardware.

Wow, I'm shocked to think how many android phones I've had since then. I bought my og droid in early 2010 coming from a Samsung Omni. To me it was only a phone with internet access and a physical keyboard. That physical keyboard was the reason I had to have that phone. I rooted and rommed it in January 2011. At Christmas dinner I was playing with my nephew's Sony Xperia and I liked it's UI so I was determined I could achieve better with my droid. And yup, I sure did! That's when I found DF and learned how to root.

wow... six years... amazing.

what really amuses me is the iDon't allow open development. I feel like half the android devices now fit into this category. look how far down the rabbit hole we've come.

I bought it on the Verizon Website.
Previous Phone was the Samsung Omnia
Loved The Keyboard.
I did Root and Rom it and Finally got CM version of KitKat it.

I also loved the Feel of the Phone Very Solid. Didnt care it was a little heavy buy it was a quality built Phone.
I still have this Phone and will not get rid of it.
