GPS will not stay active

I have a droid incredible and used to be able to keep the GPS active where through a 3rd party sofware I could monitor the exact location of the phone via GPS and not through cell tower location for the past week I have been having the iss where I go to maps and enable the gps but once I go back to my home screen the satelite icon turns off and the phone goes back to cell tower location...this is a recent issue and I have called tech support (611) and they never got back to me with a fix..also I have been to the verizon tech store where the tech there also could not help me?? I am now seeking the help of forum members with true knowledge that I could not get from verizon LOL. agian ther was a time when gps would stay active and location monitoring worked... thanks for any help
