GPS Stays running . . .

I've noticed that on both my and my dad's Droid, the GPS will sometimes come on for a program, and stay actively running (at least as it shows in the upper toolbar) for hours. In fact, mine will stay on until I turn the gps off for awhile and then back on. I've checked all the background programs, even closing all of them and the GPS remains on.

Anyone else have this problem or a possible solutions other than to just turn off/on the gps every time?

I have had this problem several times, last night as a matter of fact, and it was when weather widget was trying to get gps location. This only happens with one particular weather widget. I simply truned off the GPS location setting in weather widget, and used zip code. Took care of issue.

I noticed also that if Iam in a building/house and its not able to get a gps single and a problem is trying to find gps location, it will keep looking like you mentioned. I normally just trun off GPS untill I need it, or till Iam at another location.
