Google talk and little green robot not appearing in gmail

For whatever reason I can't seem to get the robot icons to indicate my mobile status. I have it enabled it under phone settings and have tested it on another gmail account with the lab enabled as well.
Tried it with wifi on and off. Makes no difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
