Google Search App?

I'm not certain what this is. It's no different in appearance then when we hit our search button, but the Market said it wasn't downloaded so I'm not sure if this is an upgrade or what it is. Anyway, I thought I'd mention it because I wasn't aware until my wife told be about it yesterday that it was even in the market.

The one in the market is the new version. It's kind of like Facebook, the market makes it look like you don't have it installed, but the one in the market is the newest version. Once you install the newest version from the market you'll always get the updates.

That's interesting, but how are we suppose to find out about these updates? Kind of like Voice Search you need to be on top of it or just paying attention at the right time.

Anyone using the Search Widget, updated with this app?
A minor inconvenience - instead of tapping on it and typing whatever I want to search for, it opens up the app.

Why do I need to open up the app? I thought you used to be able to just type in the widget and search away. It just takes a few extra, unnecessary seconds.
