Did you try restarting your phone?

Once I lost signal, and had to restart before it picked it up again. Not sure why. haven't had the issue since either.

That was the 1st thing I tried. No dice. Still Searching for GPS...

Also, the last time you used the GPS in some way, did you happen to be far away from where you tried just recently?

I don't know if it's the same with this GPS, but on another stand alone GPS I had, sometimes if you turned the unit off, and then back on a distance from the last point, it would take a while to find the new location... Apparently sometimes they "save" your location to help it aquire the signal again when you turn it back on... Except if you're far from that point it has to first figure out that it's no longer near that point and then go through the task of finding where it actually is...

Shrug.

Finally... GPS is weird. It's not really that strong of a signal, so almost anything can interfear with it. I've had a GPS lose signal in the middle of middle america, on a sunny day on a wide open highway. Sunspots? Attack from China? :p Who knows.

Interesting! However, that's never an issue for me! I'm OFTEN over a hundred miles from where I last used GPS and I NEVER have an issue!

Just this morning... all of a sudden, no GPS!

Shrug...

Maybe it is sunspots?!?!? Maybe there is an attack from China?!?! :icon_eek: {JimmyD runs away to the office kitchen to craft a helmet made from aluminum foil!} ;)

I had an app that did the same thing. Mine was a traffic cam app. I believe it happened after an update of that app. Uninstalling the app corrected the GPS.

If I throw mine really far strait up when it comes down it has found the satilites

:D

Well all I can say is.... if my GPS issue doesn't clear up soon, I might have to resort to this tactic with my Droid as the ammo!!!!

I had the same issues last month. I found that one of the apps I downloaded that used google maps, was causing the issue. Once I uninstalled the app, google maps and the navigation started to work again. I believe the app that was giving me the problems was called Precisely.

:icon_ banana: WOOHOO!!!! IT WORKS NOW!

PSUBill & n8pbm....

Thank you guys for the suggestions about uninstalling other apps that use the location feature!!!

I thought about which apps have been updated recently and a couple came to mind. So I unistalled the free DailyRoads Voyager app from the company DailyRoads and tested my navigation again.

Bam! GPS was found IMMEDIATELY!

Just to be sure it worked 100%, I jumped into my car and took a quick drive around my building and the compass worked, the route was plotted and once again I heard the constipated voice of my friendly robotic Droid navigation woman who sounds like she is out of breath when she squawks directions to me. :D

OK... I'm good now, so I'll stop hijacking jigsawkilr's thread now!

I have had this problem on and off for a couple of months. Today it is currently in the"Searching for GPS Mode". I have restarted it several times, I have also removed the battery, uninstalled weather bug etc. etc. still not working. If you do a Google search or go on the Google navigation forum you will see that this is a very common problem that does not seem to have a true, consistently workable solution. This is a bummer as I depend on my GPS for my daily work travels. Today I had to pull out my trusting Garmin Nuvi. Always works, until Google maps. I downloaded an app that checks the status of the GPS system and it was lock on a number of satellites. I think at this point the wizards at Google are throwing there hands up as they cannot come up with a fix. It seems to be one of those "just wait and it will fix itself thing".....yeah right.

I've had only 2-3 times that this happened to mine. Shift/alternate/delete restart always seem to cure it.

I can live with a few minor glitches because it CAME FREE WITH MY PHONE... :) mikey

i dont think the problem is consistently WEATHER APPS.
It may also possibly be a news app.

I deleted 2 news apps and its working perfectly now- i think the problem is that some apps steal the signal.

I deleted AP NEWS & NPR

Here in my shop I get no signal at all. I do have to walk close to a window. Surprising that it works without actually holding out the window. Same as in a car. Years ago I had a sending unit for my GPS that needed to be stuck (self adhesive with velcro) to a section of the windshield that had an unobstructed view of the sky. I guess something has changed today as you no longer need a clear line of sight... mikey :)

Anyone else having issues with google maps? Under settings satellite and wireless are checked. Problem is it can't find my location and my navigation keeps saying searching for GPS signal. I was outside and let it search for 20 mins. Nothing. Any ideas or is my phone messed up? May need to take it back. I bought the Droid for the GPS navigation. Any suggestions? Nexus One is sounding so good. Only if VZW had it already.

I did another post on this - since i had the same problem as you.

I find that with both the wireless network and GPS checked on my
droid, the wireless network always is the prodominate setting. (it's great
for finding my cell tower), but when I check GPS only, and stand outside the GPS kicks in and gives me a more accurate location reaing.

I only have the GPS boxed checked. This works for ME in my area. But
as with anything others may disagree and tell you to check both boxes,
wireless network and GPS satellite.

Good Luck!

Every now and then it would take longer to find the satellites. However lately after the new update, it's been finding them immediately everytime(1-3 seconds for the most):). Maybe it's just a coincidence. And like some people here I use it almost every day. I'm also really digging this new night mode in the navigation.

I have 100's of apps on this phone. How can I determine which one is using my GPS? Any suggestions? Maps still isn't working. Next trip is back to the store for a new droid

start with news & weather apps.

they appear to use location.

beautiful widgets and the weather channel are fine.

btw, it is worth the effort. Now that mine works I'm ecstatic. This phone is phenomenal with gnav/ gps
my wife's blackberry is a smartphone- this is more like a pocket computer.

Ok, I don't have any news and weather apps except for weather channel. Mine stared after I accessed google buzz on mobile. Is there anyway to get rid of Buzz? I hate it, don't use it, and don't want it!
