Give thanks to RootzWiki user aceoyame for finding this leaked build of Gingerbread for the Droid 2 Global!

Link to the thread on RootzWiki: Droid 2 Global Gingerbread Leak

Facts about the update:

  • The update does not unlock the bootloader
  • Flashing to Gingerbread will unroot your device
  • TeamBlackHat has released a program to root Motorola handsets running Gingerbread
  • This Gingerbread build is listed as version 4.5.606
  • You can still SBF back to Froyo (2.4.330)
  • The build does come with a newer version of MOTOBLUR, similar to the Droid 3's

To install:

  1. Make sure you are on stock MOTOBLUR Froyo (2.4.330) and stock recovery
  2. Make sure none of the bloatware has been removed from the phone (it may refuse to update)
  3. Rename the leaked Gingerbread file to update.zip
  4. Place the update in the root of your SD card
  5. Boot into recovery mode by holding the "X" key and power button
  6. Select the update to start the process (some have had to try a few times in order for it to work)
  7. It is recommended you wipe the cache after installing (some have also had to wipe data)
  8. Enjoy Gingerbread on your Droid 2 Global!

Ace posted a link to where you can download it in the thread at RootzWiki. However I reccommend you DO NOT try to install this on your phone as it changes kernels, hasn't been tested, could brick your phone, and there is a chance that you won't be able to sbf back to .229 or .330.

Read more over at RW.

Yes, he posted after my comment.

I wonder if somebody with a dev device can give it a look (my hope is Team Black Hat can turn the SBF into a nice rooted update.zip)

Edit: I downloaded - it is an update.zip (not sure why I assumed it is SBF). Even better!!
The 'right people' will look onto it - can't wait :)

Apparently user aceoyame has found a leak of a Gingerbread build for the Droid 2 Global.

As long as this isn't a joke, we may be in luck for getting Gingerbread. Personally, I am excited so that we can get some of the files we need to improve CyanogenMod for our D2Gs!

I agree, I'm really digging cyanogenmod atm but with this it'll make it better. Can't wait for ics in the future

Ace says the bootloaders unlocked. If it's true, I'm going to break out the old SPRecovery flashing method, and then flash the old D1 root update to it. First, someone has to confirm it can be sbf'd back to Froyo. I don't want to be stuck on a potentially unrootable gingerbread.
